How is this Santo kids name popping up in alot of teams? We are preparing for 2019 WC ATM, not 2023. You don't take a brand new player, already low in confidence, and put him up in the biggest cricket tournament. ATM, imrul has done a decent amount of job both in Asia Cup and vs Zim. Liton is coming along nicely as well but need to work on his initial couple of over issues. Sharkar is still iffy. Would need to see him play more but we already know that their plan is to include him in the WC squad.

Very early presumptions here about the wc squad.
Still half a year remaining and that too packed with quite a few series.
How many you predicted Soumya Sarkar 7 months before 2015 WC?
What about Tamim in 2007 WC?
And they were just not extras of the squad, but prominent member of the playing 11 despite none of them much known a year before the tournament.
So wait a moment there before jumping over a conclusion. I will wait until at most three month remaining of wc to conclude a squad prediction.

I would like to see Nurul Hasan in the side, but I know that's obviously not going to happen.

My 11
I never thought that I would want to see Imrul in the WC squad. Apart from his godly performance against ZIM, he averages 47.27 in the 23 ODI innings he played since 2015. That's 3rd highest after Tamim & Mushy.
I hope that Imrul and SS will continue their form thru WI and NZ series and the injured (including Taskin) will make a strong comeback.
Based on recent performance, here's my thought:
1. Tamim
2. SS
3. Imrul
4. Mushy
5. Shakib
6. Liton (B/U: Mithun)
7. Mullah
8. Mehedi (B/U: Opu & Saifuddin)
9. Mash
10. Rubel (B/U: Taskin assuming he makes a comeback)
11. Fizz (B/U: Rony)
I don't mind Imrul to open with Tamim. But seeing a changed Imrul and his efficiencies over spin compared to SS, I would play him at 1-down. In that way, you will have your most run-getters in top 4. Their 2015 onward combined avg makes 189 runs.
Shak is at 5 coz there isn't any other suitable position. Liton can play at any number 5, 6 or 7. He can hard-hit if it's required and also our B/U keeper. Mullah, despite his inconsistencies, still makes the team. Mehedi is interchangeable with Opu or Saifuddin (I'm still not sold on him though). Since it's a league-based format, you ought to have B/U fast bowlers. Like for like, I have Rony for Fizz. I would want to keep another for Rubel+Mash and Taskin comes to my mind provided he makes a comeback. I also kept Mithun as a B/U middle-order batsman since he has done a decent-enough job so far. This also gives you 2 part-time bowlers: Mullah & SS.
Knowing our players & selectors, I know that things will change. I doubt that both Imrul & SS will be able to keep their consistencies till WC. But for now, this is it!

We need a squad that will allow us to score plenty of runs. Without runs on the board, we won't win. I say that because we struggle to post scores in excess of 300 judging by our ODI history, but nearly all the other teams are doing that. So, Tamim, Imrul, Sarker and maybe Liton will have to be in our squad.

Lol ar bolben na. Shanto Shanto kore ora pagol hoye jachche.
Kid can't even hold the bat at int'l level yet. Looked utterly poor every time he played. But he's supposed to be our savior at the WC.

I see that after two good innings from Liton and one from Soumya, they've already become auto starters.

Didn't you read other threads. Apparently we should cease with all experiments and not try anything new or any new players (including Imrul) because the WC is tomorrow.

Shanto has played one more ODI innings than fazle, whoâs scored more international runs? My point is not to bag out these players, what Iâm saying is itâs not fair to say things like shanto has yet to show he can hold a bat at international level when that same person is supporting fazle who has played two innings and scored two ducks.
As Iâve said before poor starts donât always mean a lot, Marvin atapattu, rilee rossouw, BDs own seniors eg mushy.
I do not believe anyone thinks shanto is he WC saviour, some of us do believe however that he has done enough to deserve more chances than he has been given, and if he is being directly compared to fazle (forget bowling, fazle wasnât really used much for his bowling so itâs not a big thing for his selection plus heâs never been considered an allrounder before this) then shanto aside from the recent A tour where he didnât get many chances has been better than fazle in the recent DPL and has a better career record as well.
Itâs fine to back fazle, but if youâre targeting shanto to make a point about fazle then youâre Ponting your finger at the wrong player because shanto has it over fazle.
Both can be considered.

I'm not a supporter of Fazle. I don't know who he is. I simply pointed out in another thread that Fazle's selection wasn't bad as he was selected as a batting AR (we needed one in the lineup, which is proving to be a difficult concept for some reason), which Shanto isn't.
I didn't put Fazle in the WC squad let alone in the XI. That'd be a ridiculous thing to do. Even more ridic if I were to say WC is tomorrow, so NO new players should be selected except Fazle the Great like some are doing with Shanto.
This isn't about Fazle vs Shanto lol. And no one said Shanto won't/can't come good in the future.

Fazle isnât a batting allrounder, just because one of the selectors said he was a complete package doesnât make it so, heâs a batsman who can bowl a bit. Besides there are plenty of others who can roll their arm over, fazle was labeled a an allrounder by selectors to try to make his selection valid.

A bit was what was needed. A few overs a game. Compare Soumya's bowling numbers with Fazle's, whom he replaced. The fact Fazle failed with bat and ball (I didn't see him bowl, judging by your comments I guess he did) and was a nervous wreck (as per Mash) is another matter.
Can Shanto "bowl a bit?"
It was either Fazle or Naeem. There were hardly better options, and he wasn't a bad one. And it's good to see the selectors finally giving older players in form a chance. Don't see what's there to complain about. Don't get what Shanto has to do with that role or how he's in the picture.
Would you have felt better about Fazle's selection, his recent form and performances, and the two games with the NT had Bashar used better word selection to describe his ability to bat, field, and bowl a few overs?

If you want to build a good team unit they same players need to have experience at that level and experience playing with each other, thatâs why itâs important not to bring in too many new players too close to the WC, but there does need to be some experiment Taino to find positions for he players in contention.
Ariful, mithun, mosaddek, liton, shanto, fazle, nazmul, mehedi, hider, saifuddin off the top of my head are in experienced and in the case of shanto, fazle, mithun, saifuddin, hider and nazmul they are very untested at this level. Hence we need to keep giving these players chances rather than bringing more new ones into the equation

We didnât need to bring in another allrounder to bowl extra overs. Ariful, saifuddin, riyad, mehedi, soumya as well as specialists like mash, fizz give enough options and can fill the overs.
The 2nd match fazle didnât even bowl, that shows how essential his extra overs were and riyad and miraz didnât bowl their full quota, riyad only bowled 3 overs and couldâve bowled more

That's because Saif bowled well. Did you know Saif was going to bowl well this series even though he did poorly before, or is this another case of 20/20 hindsight?

Just to let you know, Fazle batted at no.6 for the entire Irish tour........ Was always a middle order batsmen as far as I know. Mithun, Shanto, Mushy, Riyad all couldve batted at no.3 in Shakib's absence.

Why would you want to move Mithun, Mushy, and Riyad around esp now, esp if the WC is very near?

Why would you rather have a middle order batsman debuting for a top order position?

How about before selecting players, we address the weaknesses of the team? Then perhaps we could select the right players at the right position to mitigate those weaknesses?
Strategically speaking, Bd is in deep **** regarding these two areas.
1) We don't have a reliable keeper.
2) Most of the batsmen cannot handle leg spin.
So in light of the above two points, I would keep my faith in Liton and give him the gloves as well. I would also keep Mithun in the side, because he is one of the better players of spin in the side.
Soumya and Saifuddin will have to perform out of their skin to get in. In Saifuddin's case, he must do it with both the bat and the ball.
Also Kayes is fixed as Tamim's opening partner. No questions asked, give him a free run till the world cup. Even prior to the Zim series, his stats were excellent from 2015 till now. When we praise Tamim and Mushfiq, we always consider the stats from 2015 onwards only. So why not do the same with Kayes? He is better than Shakib and Mahmadullah from 2015 onwards.
