Who Do You Think Is Currently The Best Batsman In World Cricket
Who in your opinion is currently the best batsman in the world? This means overall best batsman whether in longer version or shorter version. And this shouldnt be based on potential ability but rather performance over the last 12 months or so. For instance: Still skill wise Tendulkar is still a terrific batsman, but he has slowed down in terms of performance recently.

I am split between Amla and Kohli. I dont like Kohli's attitude and arrogance. But when it comes to batting i have seen very few with his ability. He is fearless and can dominate on any kind of wicket, against any type of bowling. He might not be no Tendulkar, but if he keeps going at the rate he is, he could get close to the maestro's record at least in the shorter formats.
But my vote goes to Hashim Amla. Maybe Kohli can become better, but as it stands Amla is ahead. Classical batsman who can destroy any attack with ease. Phenomenal average in both test and ODI's- close to 50 in tests, and 60 in ODI's. Kohli's better in T20's, but Amla is better in longer versions. I hope no bowling attack ever has the face the two of them together.

Mark my words, Hashim Amla will average 65+ in ODIs and 70+ in Tests at the end of his career.
...
Virat Kohli will remain in the lower 50s in terms of average. That being said, he has a poor average of 33 in Tests. So, Amla by a fair distance!

^ Kholi only played 9 tests, as oppose to Amla who played 62. That's a huge difference.

Has to be Amla. Kohli will get there, but not yet.

yeah amla atm, kohli has done well in one-dayers but not played many tests plus his test record is nowhere near amla's. de villiers is always really solid, maybe be put as 2nd if you're including all formats.

Amla is clearly the best when you see both ODI and test performance, Kohli is not yet in the same league because Amla has averaged almost 70 since 2009 in test cricket where kohli is yet to make real impact. Amla has a far superior record in ODI as well, average almost 60 with strike rate of 92 is unheard of.

very true, if amla continues in this fashion he will be an automatic in ODI and test all time teams and not many players get that. bradman has that, no one else has it.

4-5 years ago it was tipped Duminy, AB, and Amla would be competing for the best batsmen in the world title. Duminy was actually the favorite given his immense talent and exciting style. Amla and AB have picked up, but Duminy hasnt. But Amla is a notch above AB. And the amazing thing about him is he doesnt have the talent of Tendulkar or a Lara. He has come this far purely with hard work, discipline and pursuit of excellence. His methods are very classical and orthodox. Real inspiration for youngsters for sporting and non sporting reasons.

Amla for Test, Kohli for ODI and AB for T20
I can't forget some of AB's amazing performances in the IPL this year

Amla for sure. Kohli hasn't proven himself yet in Tests. I would rate Cook and De Villiers as better batsmen than Kohli as well. Not takin anything away from Kohli, he'll get there, just not yet.

south africa have always been a strong team, good batsmen, good fast bowlers. tough to compete with the atm with smith, de villiers and amla averageing close to 50 in tests and kallis over 50, also in the 50 over game kallis averages 45, de villiers is close to 50 and amla is over 50 then duminy averaging 40 and smith 38.

Sehwag is ranked 25th in ODI, and 23 in Tests. Magnificent player, but has slowed down in recent times. Ability wise Tendulkar is always up there. But i chose the poll players with recent performance and ranking in mind.

Just saw this thread, gone with Clarke, though Cook and Amla are close too.

I went with Kohli. A tossup between him and Amla for me.
Man, South Africa's batting lineup is just scary. Then you give them that pace attack. If they don't win the WC in Australia, I doubt they ever will during this generation.

AtM its Amla and Cook. Both are performing very well in Tests and ODI's. Clarke is brilliant in Test matches and same can be said for Kohli in ODI's.
