Bangladesh ends World Cup campaign with a disappointing loss against Pakistan
5 July 2019
Bangladesh ended their 2019 world cup campaign with a 94 run loss against Pakistan at the home of cricket today. This defeat means Bangladesh finishes on 7 points with 3 wins out of 8 completed matches.
Bangladesh was asked to bowl first after losing the toss and Pakistan scored 315 for 9 courtesy of some poor bowling and dropped catches by Bangladeshi fielders. Babar Azam and Imam Ul Huq shared a brilliant 150 run partnership for the 2nd wicket. Babar scored a sublime 96 but was dropped three times by Bangladesh while Imam scored an excellent 100. Mustafiz was the most successful Bangladeshi bowler with 5 for 75, his second five-for in the world cup 2019.
Bangladesh was never in the chase as the stuttering innings finally petered out to 221 all out in 44.1 overs. Only Shakib Al Hasan continued his rich form in the tournament and scored a patient 64. No other batsman could provide any support to Shakib and Bangladesh was bundled out with more than 5 overs to spare.
