FTFY. I'd never watch cricket in Bangladesh wasn't so outlandishly bad at all other international sports. Don't like how ICC treats emerging cricket teams and is heavily controlled by the Big-3.
Football is actually the most played sport in Bangladesh, not cricket. There is more hype surrounding the FIFA World Cup in the country than Cricket world cup.

Jamal Bhuyan had shown a lot of potential in his youth career in top Danish club FC Copenhagen playing alongside the likes of Nicklas Bendtner and Thomas Delaney. But in 2007 his world was flipped upside down when he was shot 4 times and was out of the sport for 14 months.
Sadly, he could not find the same form again after that incident. It's great to see him succeeding with Bangladesh now and leading the team.

^ Nice share. Thanks.
Didn't know he was shot. Good lord.
The India result has shaken up the soccer world in a big way. But I hate to be that guy, but like the Qatar game, it was probably a fluke. The infrastructure is way too poor, and the guys are not fit or fast enough. I don't blame them either. Not everyone has got what it takes, and those that do, get discouraged by society and pursue other professions.
Nepal and Bhutan are 50-50 games now. And Maldives will whoop our behinds any day of the week. Only light at the end of the tunnel is if we can get a few more guys like JB with european experience at any level. Three quarters of the afghan team play or has played in german lower divisions.

Bangladesh had a very well thought out strategy against India, I suspect much of it could be credited to Jamie Day.
Quote:
“We didn’t care if India had the ball. They can play in the middle as much as they want. But, they could not score from open play. We knew that they had problems in the right-back position and one stopper. So, we just waited and attacked in counters using those deficiencies”- Jamal Bhuyan

We dominated that game, but sadly luck wasn't with us. Had it been our day, the end score would have been 1-4. A clear penalty denied too at the beginning of the game.

This is amazing news! I feel like our results would be significantly improved if we had a good striker/ attacking midfielder. We seem to bring the ball forward in many occasions and create pressure but we can barely convert our chances into goals.
Most of our goals seem to come from free kicks, long throws, etc as a result.

India lost all 2 of the Intercontinental Cup matches they were hosting. 2-4 to Tajikistan, 2-5 to North Korea and they tied 1-1 with Syria.
Point being India have players that can score goals against mid-tier international teams that have a possibility of appearing in the FIFA World Cup. We simply don't.

^ Very astute observation. I agree.
The 1-1 draw Syria was very impressive btw.

Full Time: Oman 4 - 1 Bangladesh
I'm happy with the outcome. An away goal from open play was long overdue for us, especially against a strong team like Oman. Hopefully we'll do better in the future.

We used to be the 2nd best team in South Asia, just after India for a very long time.
But now Nepal and Maldives have stomped us on our last few encounters, and have clearly established themselves as better teams. We are now competing with the likes of Bhutan, Sri Lanka and Pakistan who were never that good at football.

BFF are looking to bring Manchester United to Bangladesh to play a friendly against BPL XI. It will cost BDT 30,00,00,000 which equates to USD $3.5 million.
Manchester United already sent a team to inspect the safety and facilities in Bangladesh.

I feel like this is a horrible way to spend that money. That money can be spent better for talent scouting, improvement to the domestic league or facilities. Or even paying the coach on time FFS. India wouldn't do something this extravagant.

Beaten by a nation of 800,000 people.
Same story with Bangladesh football as it has been for a good part of the last 2 decades.. 1 step forward, 2 steps back.

Yep. But I am a firm believer we should spend more on soccer (football).
Ma boi Jamal tries so hard, and is so likeable, not like the obnoxious and spoiled cricketers we have.

National team players Topu Barman and Mahmud Hasan Kiron get offers from a third tier Argentine team.
I think this is a big step up from Bangladesh Premier League, and the players would have a better chance to be scouted out by stronger South American teams if they can shine here, which could then open doors for other Bangladeshi players in South America.

I havent been following the men's football team for ages. The younger girls are more exciting and successful to watch.
I remember in late 90s and early 00s they had this cup where BD had 2 teams and would invite other countries. It was very closely followed.
in the mid 90s SAFF tournament was exciting to watch and BD were decent. The rivalry against the Indians were good too.

Recently Argentina national team GK Emi Martinez, Golden Glove winner in the World Cup made a visit to Bangladesh. While the organizers allowed YouTubers, a past cricket team captain and politicians to meet Emi our national team captain Jamal Bhuyan and GK Ziko (Best GK award winner from the recent SAFF) were not allowed to meet him.
They could only get a glimpse of him from a distance at the airport, with Bangladeshi GK Zico being tearful he couldn't meet his hero face to face as they were not allowed in. This is shameful.
The organizers should have set up a meet with our football team at the very least. Emi came to Bangladesh love of football and Argentina. Not to meet with politicians
