I think the site UI is fine as is. It’s ancient version of vbulletin. Although it’s old, the UI is nice and simple.

I personally find reddit UI crap how it lays out thread structure.

Only issue I have here is that it’s PAINFULLY slow!! You can’t go back to early threads 5-10 years ago anymore.

Anyway, sad to see this site in current shape. It was my old hangout in student days.

Guess all good things come to end.

I agree, the user interface is not the problem but the forum just doesn't work smoothly. And my feelings are exactly like yours, this site got me through some intense studying during my college years. It felt almost like a true friends gathering. My 5 min break usually turned into an hour break.

Also there has been a massive shift (/proliferation) in how ppl use social media since those days. That time was actually the start of that shift. So obviously the appeal of this niche group of ppl isn't there yet. In fact, i think there is an extremely unhealthy amount of social media participation now - ppl are waay over connected.

I am here mostly now as a habit. Not from interest.

Social media killed a lot of things like MSN & Yahoo messengers and good quality discussion that happened in forums like these.

Reality is that forums are going out of fashion - there’s a FB group for everything nowadays.

I think another reason may be a drop in interest in Bangladesh cricket in general.
There was a time where it seemed like Bangladesh cricket was in a genuine upward trend.
There were close matches against big opponents here and there.
There was excitement around new talents.
I personally used to stay awake for any match that Bangladesh played.

But the hope that we had that there will be a sustainable improvement in Bangladesh cricket has started to fizzle out.
The first class structure has not improved one little bit since 2000s.
There is not a single genuine test batsman. We only do good occasionally in one-day style test matches.
We even lost test to Afghanistan - a war torn country that hardly had a cricket culture even 30 years ago.
I think there are people like me who have resigned to the fact that Bangladesh will be perennial minnows in international cricket except for some occasions achievements, mostly based on individual performances.

Cricket forums like PakPassion are still going strong.

I agree with napoleonIV - our future beyond Shakib-Tamim-Mushfiq looks pretty bleak. All those seniors are at the fag end of their careers also, I don't find them as exiting as they used to be. Overall team spirit also seems to be down in post Mash era. So, yeah, there is not really much to be excited about BD team nowadays.

Look at the homepage. Still showing article from 2019. So, no one has bothered with forum maintenance since 2019!

I am strongly thinking of creating a new forum.

I know - that itself just give members an incorrect impression or even an impression of a dead site!!!

Admins, please remove it and make the thread page as the homepage.

Better even - make it like social media page, something like the members avatar on the right hand side, the threads on the left hand side and discussion in the middle!!

Hey folks, lots of interesting takes about quality of posts, etc.

Well, lots of **** forums have survived, so quality is probably not the issue. I think the usability of the forum could be better. Back in the day, there really wasn't any well polished social media, so static forums and IRC were more than enough to attract a large number of users.

With the emergence of FB and it's wide adoption in Bangladesh, cricket fans now have a much better interface that they can use to interact with other BD cricket fans/arm chair pundits/**** posters. What niche does BC fulfill then?

Given that this website is probably not professionally maintained, I don't expect a glut of new users. And old users like us just got busier as our beards turned greyer.

Edit: if you see a duplicate post, that just demonstrates how much of a dinosaur this forum's tech is. Even with miniscule number of users, posting a message is a hassle.

With a forum, you can be ANONYMOUS. There is no way , I want the whole world to know that I am Ananta Jalil. I also do not want random strangers knowing what I look like and then chasing me with a boti if I ever have an argument with them and they then see me on the street.

So you are telling me you cannot have a FB account with the name "Shingara" and have a profile pic of a Shingara like you have here? Will that expose the fact that you are Ananta Jalil?

Moral of the story, you can be anonymous on FB if you really want to.
