The unbridled remark of Mohammedan captain Minhazul Abedin drew widespread criticism yesterday.

Minhaz, who has a history of making headlines with unrestrained comments, went on record Tuesday by saying that Bangladesh Biman might intentionally lose their last Premier League Super Six match against leaders Victoria Sporting Club to throw a spanner in Mohammedan works.

Minhaz made the remark in a post-match press briefing after Mohammedan won the crucial match against Victoria by two wickets to keep their title-hope alive.

The former national captain also questioned the fairness of Victoria's wins against Abahani Krira Chakra and Kalabagan Krira Chakra.

"We strongly condemn his remark that the match between Abahani and Victoria was fixed. His statement has tarnished the image of the popular team. He is already known as a controversial character, but his recent comment has made us doubtful whether he is mentally imbalance or not. We want an apology from him," read a press release from Abahani yesterday.

Victoria denounced Minhaz's statement and the hoodlum act of a few Mohammedan supporters after Tuesday's match.

"This is an irresponsible remark from a top-ranked cricketer of the country. We want Minhaz to prove it or face disciplinary action," said a Victoria release.

Victoria also expressed their fears about security measures after Tuesday's incident when some Mohammedan supporters attacked their players on their way back to the dressing room.

Meanwhile, the Cricket Committee of Dhaka Metropolis (CCDM) has shifted the Victoria-Biman match from Fatullah Stadium to the BKSP ground in Saver for security reasons.
