Biman pummel Pegasus

Bangladesh Biman yesterday scored a morale-boosting 102-run win against Young Pegasus ahead of their much-anticipated final GrameenPhone Premier Super Six clash with Victoria Sporting Club Friday.

The national airline outfit will be out to disprove a propaganda blitz from Mohammedan captain Minhazul Abedin when they take on Victoria in their final game at the BKSP on Friday.

Minhaz on Tuesday's expressed his fear that Biman might intentionally lose their game against Victoria Sporting Club as they were already thrown out of the title race. Biman however was not that impressive in their match against the babes at the Fatullah Stadium yesterday.

They scored a modest 168 before being all out in 42.1 overs, thanks to a fine knock of 50 by their Pakistani left-hander Imran Frahat.

The southpaw also captured two wickets to help his side dismiss Pegasus for a paltry 66. Pegasus, a surprise package in the Super Six, lasted only 27.3 overs in the face of some controlled blowing from the new ball pair of Al-Amin and Anisur Rahman.

The right-left combination of Al-Amin and Anis captured five wickets with the former finishing with three for 15 runs in his nine overs. Anis took two wickets for 32 runs.

Earlier, Farhat gave Biman a flying start with a cracking half-century. The Pakistan Test discard clubbed six boundaries and two sixes in his 49-ball knock.

Aminul Islam scored a patient 33 and Hasanuzzaman made 34 off 55 balls. But Biman's hopes of a big total evaporated when they lost their last six wickets for 38 runs. Hasan was the most successful Pegasus bowler with four wickets for 23 runs.

The victory in the penultimate match raised Biman's tally to 22 from 15 games. On the other hand it was Pegasus' fourth successive defeat in the Super Six.
