West Indies in Bangladesh, 2012
Bangladesh falters at the post
Tino Best's 5-wicket haul helped West Indies beat Bangladesh by 77 runs in the first Test on Day 5 at the Sher E Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka. Bangladesh only needed 245 runs for what could have been a historic win only to see them collapse to 167 all out.
This was particularly frustrating for the hosts after fighting admirably for most part of the Test match which was their first Test in a year. Bangladesh top order showed up in their usual self and batted without any plan to throw away the momentum and surrender the match without even putting up a fight in the second innings. Three of Bangladesh's top 5 batsmen got a start, but all of them played rash strokes to get out in their 20's when simple discipline was expected of them.
Bangladesh team management may find some solace by taking the Test to the last session of the match but this is no achievement considering Tigers had a realistic chance to post a historic win or draw a Test match after almost 3 years. Bangladesh must stop repeating the same old story if they want to retain their Test status and gain some respect from the opposition.
