India ease to six wicket victory
11 January 2009
India defeated Bangladesh by six wickets in the final round robin match of the Tri-Nation ODI series at Mirpur Sher E Bangla Stadium on Monday. India captain MS Dhoni won the toss and opted to field first in the day-night affair. Bangladesh innings struggled to gather pace due to regular loss of wickets and were reduced to 95 for 5. A fine sixth wicket partnership between skipper Shakib Al Hasan and Mahmudullah Riyad revived Bangladesh and they managed 247 for the loss of 6 wickets in 50 overs which was proven insufficient as India raced to victory in 43 overs losing only 4 wickets. Virat Kohli was the star performer for India with an unbeaten 102 which featured 11 boundaries.
Bangladesh: 247 for 6 in 50 overs (Shakib Al Hasan 85, Mahmudullah 64 not out; Ashish Nehra 2/58).
India: 249 for 4 in 43 overs (Virat Kohli 102 not out, Gautam Gambhir 41; Naeem Islam 2/35).
