Default Random Cricket Facts

C. B. Fry was born in Croydon; the son of a civil servant.[7][8] Both sides of his family had once been wealthy, but by 1872 were not as prosperous. After winning a scholarship, Fry was educated at Repton School and then at Wadham College, Oxford. His greatest strength academically was in the Classics. At Repton he won the school prizes for Latin Verse, Greek Verse, Latin Prose and surprisingly, French. He was also runner-up in German.[9] His weakest subject was mathematics; he gained the headmaster's permission to study Thucydides instead and dispensed with maths for the rest of his academic career.[10]

Chris Old
Old was a fine quick bowler who would undoubtedly have achieved more but for his tendency to acquire injuries on the eve of matches. He once pulled out of a Test match when he sneezed and damaged a rib. Frank Keating once wrote of him: "Ask that engaging hypochondriac how he is keeping and the answer, as ever, takes a full half-hour." It was reported that the first bowling machine installed at Lord's was nicknamed Chris Old ... because it kept breaking down so often.
