Well on the basis of standard even the NCL probably doesn't amount to FC cricket. Its FC simple because we are a test nation, and by that token, this new league should also have been FC. It will actually be an elite version of the NCL, which is already FC!

Even if they play back to back 4 day matches, max they will get 3 rounds but I highly doubt that since no one would want to risk injury with money spinning BPL just around the corner.

Btw, how much are the players getting paid for this tournament ?

Each player will get 40,000 taka as match fee,champions and runners up will be aworded by 35 lakhs and 15 lakhs respectevely.

The first edition of the Bangladesh Cricket League (Longer Version) will start from December 27. The franchise based 4-day competition will be participated by four zonal teams: Walton Central Zone, Prime Bank South Zone, Islami Bank East Zone and BCB North Zone.

"The final will be a day-night game where a pink ball will be used. The league matches will be completed before the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) T20 and the final will be held at a suitable time after the BPL," informed Rahman.

It does still not have first class status. But after commencing the tournament BCB will appeal for first class status.

As per the schedule 3rd round of the tournament will be completed on 11th January. If Bangladesh goes to Pakistan no 3rd round will be held. But I have a feeling that BCB is almost certain that there will be no Pakistan tour so they have made the schedule up to 11th.

40k is good money. Wish they could do this for the NCL.
This two rounds, then break and then again two rounds will no do any good to anyone.
Be sure that we will not have more than two rounds of BCL.
First, we are most likely to go to Pakistan and not sure if the BCL franchisees will be willing for the tournament to go on without star players.
Second, even if we get to have the third round, the BPL franchisees will start screaming how they need the players for their prep.

This franchisee, that franchisee, BCB, players, tours blah blah blah...all just sounds very chaotic and messy. Very clustered.

12 years on, they still can't figure out a proper calender year, not for a single year so far. It only kills this type of good initiative cuz if this edition fails, BCB will have a hard time finding sponsors come BCL 2.

Name of the tournament is Bangladesh Cricket League. . .
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) yesterday revealed that the first edition of the country's second four-day cricket league, the Bangladesh Cricket League (Longer Version) (BCL), will begin from December 27 at two venues, the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium (SBNS) in Dhaka and the Shaheed Chandu Stadium (SCS) in Bogra.

However, the tournament was previously scheduled to begin today.

Four zonal teams -- Walton Central Zone (Dhaka and Dhaka Metro), Prime Bank South Zone (Khulna and Barisal), Islami Bank East Zone (Sylhet and Chittagong) and BCB North Zone (Rangpur and Rajshahi) -- will take part in the franchisee-based competition. Three of the four teams have been bought by corporations while the fourth, North Zone, will be run by the BCB because of a lack of buyers.

BCB tournament committee chairman Naimur Rahman however said that they were still hoping to get a buyer for the North Zone before the tournament got underway.

The tournament will be played on a single-league basis, with the top two teams contesting the final. This tournament sounds like a joke. What's the point of starting the tournament before BPL and than starting over again. Only in BD it's acceptable to stop a tournament to host another tournament and than go back to the other tournament. Since there's not much time left before BPL, why not wait till BPL is over and than start it all together.

If you try to point out the merit of arranging it like the bread pieces of a sandwich placed around the BPL burger, you may find that although those players who would be regularly remain automatic choice for the franchisees may not be able to perform or even feel like perform for the extra money offered, it will become as a blessing in disguise for the pipe line players. Those who have minimal chance to create impact in BPL will die hard to perform here to smoothen their path to National team. It might and probably will give rise to some healthy competitions specially for quality pacers and middle order batsmen. I believe there is not many but at least the quality would be tested once again, not a right time for BPL superstars but definitely for players who are rising.

I believe full members should be able to assign FC status to any match that the member board sees fit, given that the match adheres to the playing conditions for FC matches that is decided by the MCC. For example, a few years ago "South Africa Composite XI vs Zimbabwe XI" was classified as a First Class match - it was not a tour match, but I still doubt the South African cricket board had to lobby the MCC to have that classed as FC.

Its a single round tournament so every team will finish their games before bpl. Only the final after bpl

You pulled out a very interesting point battye. I call it a silent racism and definitely an influence created by the giant board we all know who that runs the ICC from behind. As this was said zillionth times in BC, officials like Tutul, who do not possess any past record of affiliation with Bangladesh cricket, when continue to hold power to run the most important sporting board we will be facing such insults and humiliation as a nation.

S N is not in the squad !!! I have not seen the team of Southern Zone. But this is very poor decision. His performance in N C L is always very good.
