If there is a final then it is a good idea. Atleast the final will be very competitive. Even from Bangla Cricket we can plan to watch the matches.

4-day franchises allocated
Sports reporter
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) confirmed the buyers of the respective franchises for its inaugural edition of the franchisee-based four-day tournament, a four-team competition representing the different zones of cricket in Bangladesh, at the BCB headquarters in Mirpur yesterday.
As per the details released by the BCB's tournament committee chairman Naimur Rahman, the Central Zone's (Dhaka and Dhaka Metro) rights were bought by Walton, Eastern Zone's (Sylhet and Chittagong) were purchased by Islami Bank, Prime Bank Foundation bought the rights for Southern Zone (Khulna and Barisal), while the Northern Zone (Rangpur and Rajshahi) will be run by the BCB. . . . http://www.thedailystar.net/newDesig...php?nid=261528

According to Prothom Alo this tournament doesn't have the first class status. Though BCB will demand for giving first class status after starting the tournament.
Why doesn't BCB demand before the starting?

Its ridiculous that this wouldn't automatically have FC status...if NCL has FC status and this is a more exclusive event I don't see why this has to even apply for it. Whoever the authorities are should automatically give it FC status.

Beside some 4day match practice in an idle time, I'm not too sure what the board is trying to achieve from this tournament. Everything has to have a goal, what is the goal of this tournament and what is the desired end result ?
What are the players playing for ?
Will the performance of this tournament be counted for future test team selection ?
Is it just one-off championship in a mixed up team with no real team/local emotions to play for ?
How much is BCB set to earn from this tournament ? I mean net revenue.
Many questions.
I'm still not sure why we need to have two 4-day tournament in one calender year when even the 'real one' is too short and below par standard.
I mean why couldn't we simply make the NCL double league format and try raise the standard a little bit (each year raise the bar a bit with proper planning, infrastructure and standard to eventually give it a respectable look).
So we have now 'original' NCL where we played ONLY 6-7 games and boom! Done for the year !!
Comes another NCL type tournament with another 3 games with another mixed up teams made up from two different teams that they have played in 'original" NCL and they will play for roughly 18-20 days and then boom ! Done for the year (and bit of next year) !!
Then comes BPL where players will again get mixed up and meshed up to play for a different team !
Then comes DPL where players will again get mixed up and meshed up to play for a different team !
So basically 3 formats 4 teams.
Riyad tumi Kar ?
Dhaka DIvision er ? Naki Chittagong Kings er ? Naki Central Zone er ? Naki Abahoni'r ?
Please dont make him say "Ami Taka'r"
How are we going to evoke the sentiment and pride while playing for a team ?
Money cannot be the only loyalty factor !
Call me old fashioned but I still believe that Gazi should play for Barisal pride while Anamul should for Khulna. Each region should have their own identity and its implication goes far beyond just mere cricket. It has national significance too. By doing all these, we are simply deepening our identity crisis and simply strengthening everything to be Dhaka-centric.
I'm all up for this tournament if BCB and the cricket stands to gain something out of it, but to me, it seems nothing but an election year eye wash to keep everyone happy.

@Rabz: Couldn't have said it better myself, very well said totally agree with you man. Our current NCL just needs a big revamp and put this as our first priority no wonder our critics say Bangladesh don't deserve test status and quite frankly, they're right. If I was in charge, I will have 7 teams in NCL with the 2 Dhaka teams merged as one and play 12 matches home and away lasting about 4 good months. I will also alter a lot of the pitches, some turning like mad and the others, fast, bouncy and dangerous so that our players are seriously experiencing and developing.

it would have been nice if this tournament had already been given FC status but i'm happy for now that at least there is another 4-day tournament. FC status is nice and all but at this point we should just be glad another 4-day tournament was arranged. but of course the goal should be to attain FC status for it.

If it was first class tournament, players would be more motivated.

true, but if they played to a high enough standard in the NCL then this tournament would have got automatic FC status. you have to earn things in this world, things don't always come easy.

Yeah, probably you are right. But what about BCB challenge cup? Last year when this tournament was organised, they said it would be regular in our cricket calendar.

After 12 years of achieving Test status they even BCB cannot find a suitable and fixed calendar for domestic cricket. How do they want to develop our cricket?
