i say we play only one pacer, whoever has the best figures in the earlier matches of this wc and play all spinners/spnner allrounder.heck,we should even play ash against them for his off/leg spin

actually ash is effective as a bowler but some how his bowling is very under rated and he doesnt get much scope

That will make us like a handicapped team.

If the spinners are beaing treated badly, you have no option of switching over to Pace. You cant be in worse situation than that.

If SL wins the first two ODIs vs. WI, We will be officially ranked higher than them and if its 3-0 in favor of SL, we go into the WC as a higher ranked team.

There is no need to fear the WIs. Each game is important to us. Our target should be wins vs. IRE, WI & NED and one more vs. IND/SA/ENG. I don't see any reason why we can't take a game from SA or ENG on our home soil.

Statistically speaking NED has a winning record against us and we are yet to defeat WI, ENG & SA on home soil. Lets change all of that

also, the idea that will auto qualify if we beat WI is likely, but not guaranteed. WI could beat any of the other top 3, and in that case even if we beat WI, we'd be tied with them and it would come down to NRR.

thats why we have to bat first against NED/IRE and do our darnest to score 300 and bowl them out for 150-180, 200 max.
That should make this game more important from our perspective. Though, all the games are important.

if head to Head win gets more priority than NRR in case of a tie in points table, that also makes WI game more important.

Well, nothing better than beating all and heading the table, u dont have to bother for points table anymore.

BDFlag Facts cwc'07 & expectations cwc'11

ASSALAMU WALAIKUM BROTHERS
BANGLADESH in CWC'07
Group Stage:
BAN vs IND:
bowled ind all out
eco<4.4 for all bowlers
8 maidens overall by ban bowlers
3-50+ scores(Tamim,Mushfiq & Shakib)
4 wkt haul by mortaza ,3 wkts each by rafique & razzak.
BAN vs SL:
got only 4 wkts
bundled out for a mere 112 in 37 overs
sl posted a mammoth target of 318
sl won by 198 runs
BAN vs BER:
bowled bermuda for just 94
chased the target within 18 overs
lost 3 wkts during chase
almost every bowler performed well

"Qualified for super 8"

BAN vs AUS:
scored 104 in given 22 overs
lost 6 wkts
Aus chased it with ease within 14 overs without lossing a wkt.
BAN vs NZ:
scored only 174
good thing is batted for almost 49 overs
oram,styris & bond got 3,4,2 wkts repectively
NZ chased within 30 overs,Fleming scored a brilliant century
BAN vs SA:
posted 251 on the board
Ashraful scored a brilliant 87
bundled out SA for 184
Spinners did the rest
BAN vs ENG:
bundled out for just 143
shakib's 53no was the only good thing in batting
made Eng fought for victory
dismissed 6 English batsmans
BAN vs IREmost bitterest match for ban)
Ire posted 243
dismissed only 7 wkts
4 dismissals were run outs
failed to capitalise
Ire came with a team effort to bundled out ban for 169
BAN vs WI:
restricted WI for 230 but failed to capitalise
took 5 wkts of the host
WI bundled out Ban for 131
Mushy & Mortaza scored 38 no & 37 repectively

My Opinion CWC07:
1.Overall a good tournament for bangladesh
2.Failed to capitalise against IRE & WI in super 8
3.Batting failures on many occassions
4.Overall Bowling was good throughout the tournament.
5.Bowling failed only against SL,AUS,NZ.
6.Fielding was superb throughout the tournament.

My Expectaion CWC11:
1.Qualify for QuaterFinals.
2.Win against NED,IRE,WI.If possible against IND ,SA,ENG in the group stage.
3.If they enter QF possible opponenets will be one amongst AUS,PAK,SL,NZ.
4.My Guess
Group A-SL(a1),AUS(a2),PAK(a3),NZ(a4)
Group B-SA(b1),IND(b2),ENG(b3),BAN(b4)
5.Most possibily QF clash with SL or AUS
6.Be physically & mentally well prepared for all the matches

If it gets into players mind that our WI match is the most important, then automatically we are downgrading the importance of the other matches - psychologically. Think!!!

The moment we target one country as "most important" (with a superlative degree), that means we are NOT targeting other ones as equally important.

Come on! the first round is on our soil, where we are much stronger. We need give our best in all the matches (for a win), even with Ireland and Netherlands. Don't forget we lost to Irelands in last WC and we lost to Netherlands only few months back.

It is a competition. Think, behave and play like a champion. Only then we can become the champions. Even we don't succeed this time; we will be in the future, inshallah.

Our target should be to go 6-0.

Right now the India match is the most important match. Period. On Feb 20th Ireland becomes the most important match.

Should we lose to India, the target gets revised to 5-1.

No overlooking any opponents and not taking any results for granted (i.e. losses to ENG/IND/SA and wins vs. IRE/NED).

After the 1st round is done, the QF match will become the most important one.

Every single game is important.
We have beaten all of them in the past and we can beat them again.
Right from the first game against India, our only goal should be winning every single match we play.

On our home soil in our favourable condition, we can certainly beat India, England,South Africa and West Indies. May be one, may be two or may be all of them, but the motto still doesnt change.

Winning against Ireland and Holland is a must, needless to say.

SA are very poor against spin plus they are greatest choker of the game.IMO Bangladesh has a greater chance of beating SA than beating WI.

A lot of the members here seem to agree with your sentiment... I read people's post and I wonder what it is that I am not seeing that your are seeing about BD's performance that is sooo good! What have we done against the big teams in the recent past that demand such high expectation?...

Lets Rewind back to February 2010...against England team at home...

-1st ODI at Dhaka... Pretty much same side... scored 228 in 50 overs... easily chased by England

-2nd ODI in March 2010 again in Dhaka. Scored 260... chased by England..although umpire screwed us up bad.. Naeem and Mahmudullah hit just 3 boundaries between them.. and Shafiul went for 55 runs in 6.5 overs

-3rd ODI in Chittagong england scored 280+... we could manage 239... Naeem Mahmdullah...faced 85 balls..could manage 3 boundaries... Rubel went for 60 runs in 6 overs

forward to Asia cup in the Subcontinent...

1st Match against India.. BD all out for 167 runs in 34 overs...

2nd Match Sri Lanka scored 312... we managed 186 all out..

3rd match Pakistan scored 385... we managed 246/5... interestingly Imrul Kayes scored 66 runs out of 110 balls with only 3 boundaries chasing a mammoth 385!

Now would you say between May 2010... and November 2010... we have suddenly become world beaters? or would you say we had easier oppositions to play with during the end of 2010?... I don't want to burst anyone's bubble here... but I am all for cautious optimism rather than be totally unrealistic and suffer the subsequent heartbreak...

against India a win would be amazing...but its not the end of the world... we need to beat West Indies... they are the weakest among the big 4... beating them and going through is fine by me

lets keep our hopes up but at the same time manage our expectations to be realistic (or in BC terminology "within Sissified Levels")
Let us expect:
We would beat West Indies, Ireland and Netherlands
We qualify for the next stage whatever way we can

Let us hope:
We beat India, South Africa and england

Let us build our future expectation based on the hopes we realized... (if we do beat India and South Africa then we revise our expectation to make the semis..and so on)

I guess the reason is that Caribbean pitches are slow and low these days and this gives WI team the skill to handle such conditions with much ease.
Speaking of the pitch, there is on going T20 games in the Caribbean. Antigua pitch was the slowest where they played 1st phase of the game. Avg. score in that pitch was 115. I think they have prepared for world cup well.

I hope that BD can beat Ireland, Netherlands and the WI. In this group, these 3 teams will also be beaten by india, England and South Africa, so if BD wins these 3 matches, they are through to the QF.

Chris Gayle and Darren Bravo to watch out. They are in form. Barath and Pollard will not be any easier.

It is not to scare any players. It is to make players aware of the fact and making them well prepared mentally.

I also suggest to watch out Andre Russell for his deceptive bowling tactics. I know most/all of our players haven't seen him playing.

Apart from West Indies, I reckon our chances gainst SA aren't too bad either. Given that for the first time in several years they do not have a batting line up that bats upto 8 or 9 and the way they struggled to score runs against the Indian spinners in the recent series, I think batting first if we can handle Steyn and company and get a decent score on the scorecard, we will surely have a chance on the slow SBNS pitch.

How well West Indies play against Sri Lanka will give us indication of how strong they really are... with Gayle sarwan chanderpaul bravo and pollard... its a pretty decent batting lineup....
I will be following that series with interest...

West indies have a strong team and did well im SL tests. Feel BD stand no chance against them. SA is the most vulnerable g8 team imo.

Their batting lineup seems to have a good balance. Now thinking about it their batting lineup is stronger then ours. Gayle Chanderpaul and Sarwan are good players against spin from what I remember. Add to that they have Bravo, Pollard, and Sammy who are all capable of hitting boundaries. It's definitely 1 of the more dangerous batting lineups. Their pacers are also better then ours. Sammy and Roach have better economies then Rubel and Shafiul. Our spin attack is a lot better then the WI though so we have to hope Shakib and Razzak really perform well against them. This group is just a very tough 1.
