Default Best XI - Football

I was just wondering what would be the best XI in world football today based on recent performances (which means Henry/Nesta wouldnt be in as they were good 1-2 years back but not in recent months).

Also please give the best "team", not the most exciting players, otherwise we will end up with Robinho, Messi, Etoo, Drogba, Kaka, Ronaldo all in one team

Cech

Essien Carvalho Terry Zambrotta

Pirlo
Gerrard C. Ronaldo

Kaka Ronaldinho
Drogba

This team would have certainly been the best if you could have replaced that Man UTD diver with someone like Guttoso or Robben.

Here is mine:

1.Buffon

2.Alves-5.Nesta-4.Chivu-3.Zambrotta

6.Gerrard-8.DeRossi

7.Messi-10.Totti-11.Ronaldinho

9.Drogba

It could also have Kaka as n.10 with Totti striker instead of Drogba.

Is this he for real? Replace Ronaldo, winner of PFA double, regarded by critics as one of the best players in the world today, with the real diver? That's a blind, jealous Chelshite fan for you. Any team in the world would love to have Ronaldo.

ronaldo's form had dipped somewhat in the last five, and most important matches of united's season. i wonder if that is why the other poster had excluded him.

what ronaldo has at present is bags of enthusiasm, a very thick skin and the likes of ferguson to guide him into a complete player. he isn't the complete package just as yet. the signs last year were very good. he was in devastating form taking on defenders at will. one might even argue that he singlehandedly delivered the championship. a season is a long time in football and i wonder if the defenders would have a better measure of him this time around.

still, on last season's evidence, the boy is a fantastic talent and worth the contact.

I don't like C Ronaldo or ManU. That said, CR is one of the best old school, Garrincha-style wingers in the game. Though I think Robinho now, and Giggs in his prime were significantly better, any team would be more than thrilled to have the Lisbon Diver in his squad. He continues to deliver for club and country when guys like Denilson have come and faded away.

i actually think that ronaldo is better than gigs was at his age, although perhaps not as fair minded. gigs had always lacked the final ball. ronaldo has seemingly learnt that by last season.

LOL most of them aren't even dives. Nobody is denying Ronaldo has never dived, but most of these clips are of him early in his career, losing balance or tripping, and in most cases he doesn't even appeal for a free-kick or make a dramatic scene like Robben and Dogba. You'll find an abundance clips like it because that's what losers do, make a dozen compilation of the same clips of a player/team they hate.

Here, enlighten yourself-

"Sometimes I dive, sometimes I stand," Drogba said, before correcting himself by saying, "no, I don't dive."

LOL

most of them dive but we tend to expect the evil continentals, south americans or africans to do it more. their dives get more column inches than micheal owen's deliberate dives because as an englishman the latter could not possibly dive

Well the Italians too have been guilty of foul play (dive or no dive) on numerous occasions in the past, especially at major events. Luis Enrique's bloody-nosed end to the 1994 world cup comes to mind. In fact, had it not been for a last minute dive against Australia, they probably wouldn't even had played the quarter finals in the 2006 version, let alone take the trophy home (this doesn't take away the fact that they were pretty decent in the other games that they played in the competition, though).

There's a notable difference between the continents and how it's done in each.

In Europe (all except Van Bommel), the players can claim later that they merely "lost their balance" ... 7.5 to 9 out of 10

In the Americas (especially the Argentines), the players do it as if they've been shot in the a** ... 8.5 to 10 out of 10.

This is an impossible task. Who do you leave out? So many great players. If I had to make a World XI right now based on players still active, this is what it would look like, though it may not be the best :

I like 4-5-1 formation , with two attacking wing midfielders right behind the striker.
Goalie : Cech ( Buffon a close second )
Central D : Canavaro ( based on how he plays for Italy and not Real ), Nesta.
Full backs : Zambrotta, Zanetti

Midfield : Essien ( holding ), Fabregasc , Ronaldinho, Kaka , Ronaldo

Strike : Henry ( sub: Drogba, Rooney, David Villa )
