Having played high school rugby in France and later in college, I tried to start a Rugby club at my gym here in Dhaka. Hope everyone else has better luck than I had.

There was an open Rugby tournament held in Dhaka Outer Stadium beginning of this month. There was another tournament held last year too.

btw Sohel Bhai... I'm serious about this. I'll get in touch with you about your rugby club when I'm in Dhaka.

??? We can't win a bronze even in south asian games.
Water polo and we lost to the Saudis/Oman (can't remember which one in Asian games) for crying out loud.

Has to be "chi buri" or "golla chut". Better yet 'ekka dokka".

Sath chara, bom basting (with tennis ball) would be fun as long as no other country participates.

Rugby in Bangladesh....
good initiative.
ha ha ha.

but if our physical attributes are anything to go by, we might as well have 15 wingers in the side.

Imagine,

Rugby world cup 2037 final:

All Browns Vs All Blacks!!!

Banglacricket should hold a World Cup for 7 chara. There are enough BC members in countries like America, England, Canada, Australia, India and Bangladesh to have a full-fledged competition.

World Cup 7 Chara... ki ekta naam!

japan plays rugby in world cups and never needed to call in their sumo wrestlers. so i don't see why bangladesh could not possibly field a team. considering that the middle classes are suffering from obesity i am sure we wouldn't have any problem in finding a pack for scrummage. as for hookers and the hard working frontmen, i am sure we could muster up some enthusiasm from those who can run fast.

despite what the coaches say, rugby is not rocket science!

... many of the obese from the traditionally black money-ed classes have lost weight running from the ACC ... the running has become faster too. Physical contact intimidates us, bitching and moaning never does.

I would encourage you to start from school here in Canada. Cricket and Rugby have remarkably similar cultural history, and despite looking violent, Rugby is a game that breeds respect and has a strong tradition of camaraderie between players and opponents.

But I have noticed though, that since its so physical, my mates all started building up a strong upper torso from high school days. As a result of which most of the burly guys in my college team were short. The same warning remains Nafis, dont work out too much - it stunts your growth.

To add to that, learn to correctly absorb and cushion contact in order to avoid stunted intellectual growth.

Rugby is really fun. In my high school rugby was more popular than the football team. The senior team was the champion and the junior team went to the semis. If its played in Bangladesh then i might have some chance to shine, cause all the players here are huge.
