Default Enamul Hossain Rajib has a good chance to participate

If Rajib can get into the top 10 place in the ongoing VI Asian Championship, he will be a participant of World Chess Cup 2007. I think he has a good chance.

Zia, Rajib get tough starts
Source-DS

Grand Master Ziaur Rahman and International Master Enamul Hossain Rajib have been drawn against tough opponents in the Chess World Championship.

World Chess Federation (FIDE) released the first round fixture yesterday for the chess mega event to be held from November 23 to December 17 in Khanty-Mansiysk in Russia.

Zia will play against GM Dmitry Jakovenko of Russia. The country's national team player Jakovenko's current rating is 2710 while Rajib will play against GM Pavel Eljanov of Ukraine. Eljanov, also of the Ukraine national team, has a rating of 2691.

A total of 128 top-level players from all over the world will take part in the knockout first round.

Rajib qualified from the 6th Asian Individual Championship, which was held in September in the Philippines, and Zia will play as the nominated player of the FIDE president.

Not good for the boys in light of how Koushik, Rasel and Dollar are performing, not to mention Talha, Sajid and Suman Saha.

World Chess C'ships
Zia, Rajib leave for Russia today
Source-DS

The Bangladesh Chess team will leave Dhaka today to participate in the World Chess Champion-ships to be held in an icy Siberia, Russia.

Grand Master Ziaur Rahman and International Master Enamul Hossain Rajib will be accompanied by Latvian coach Igor Rousis in the trip to Khanty-Mansiysk where the championships start on November 24.

Zia (rating 2497), who got an entry by direct invitation of the FIDE president, will play Russian GM Dimitri Jakovenko (2710) -- the 19-th ranked player in the world, on the opening day in the first round.

Rajib (2514) who qualified after finishing among the top ten players of the VI Asian Individual Chess Championship held in Cebu City, Philippines last August, also faces a tough task, facing world number 26 Pavel Eljanov (2691) of Ukraine.

The players will face each other twice in the knockout rounds.

Not only high-ranked players, the Bangladeshi duo will face another adversary in the Siberian city, where the current temperature is running -10 degrees Celsius.

"It would be difficult for the Bangladeshi players to cope with the icy weather in Khanty-Mansiysk. We have trained for the games but the only preparation for the cold was to buy warm clothes from Bangabazar," told Rousis jovially yesterday.

The only previous time Bangladesh took part in the World Championships was in 1997.
