Default ICC wants new 50-over tournament for next cycle (BCCI opposed)

I think its been decided since the other full members want such a tournament, but such things have been cancelled before. Cricinfo suggested it would be a 6-team tournament only.

Personally, I think that its a good idea, even if Bangladesh would currently miss out being ranked 7th or 8th. Gives us good motivation for getting into 6th place.

At first they had a 8 team tournament (ICC Champions Trophy) specially designed to keep BD and Zim out who were 9 and 10 that time, now they need a 6 team tournament to keep BD out since we went up the rankings and ditch the old champions trophy.

When BD reaches 6th (which is unlikely considering the current state of our cricket) they will try to host a 5 team tournament because the sight of BD makes them think the tournament is of low quality.

Well I won’t mind if BD really improved, we are one step backwardly close to Zim.

The general attitude towards weaker team or minnows in cricket is well known, that is why the ODI world cup is 10 teams now. The world doesn't need to revolve around Bangladesh team to know this tournament is suggested with a view to keep 'weak' teams such as Bangladesh out. When we are 7th it becomes a top 6, when we were 9th stats used to say top 8 teams only.

People here starting to sound a lot like self victims. Blaming others for their own misfortune. We just lost to Afghanistan, not just lost, thrashed. Also lost the ODI series against Lanka badly. In which world are we not a weak team?

ICC trying to contextualize every series which makes sense but it's not so simple. You also need to incorporate lower tier teams

You couldn't have said it any better. Australia won't host BD because they could not find any sponsors for the series and hence it would not be financially feasible.

Bangladesh has been minnows in the sport for so long that it has tainted our image as a cricket team. Face it, we are the laughing stock/ "Adu Bhai" of world cricket. Australia would much rather host Afghanistan.

This is also a classic ICC move of restricting the game even more. We have a 10 team World Cup and a 8 team Champions Trophy.

Why not create a tournament with 16 teams so that not only all full members can compete, but rising Associate members can get exposure by getting any opportunity to take on full members.

World T20 doesn't count, though that is a 16 team tournament, an Associate member only gets 2 matches against the bottom ranked full members. And that happens once every 4 years. No other scope for them to face full member teams.

More money for ICC. Dependance over Ind. may be less? Good or bad, you be the judge.
