Hi Shane,
Welcome to BC. I had few questions, if you dont mind answering those -
1.As Bangladesh heavily rely on spin bowling attack, being a pace bowler how are you trying to help spinners ? Do you feel need of a spin coach too ?
2. Our national team bowling dept looks one dimensional. Full of SLA's and couple of medium pacers. Don't you think its high time that we should take 'out of the box' approach and bring in new blokes of different bowling types i.e a genuine leggie, a genuine right handed off spinner apart from part time mahmudullah and nasir and train them too ? We just can't afford to continue such pattern, i think, we should consider 'position based skilled bowlers' rather than 'cover up part timers'.
3. What are the major obstacles that you face while coaching our players ?
Cheers !

Hi Shane,
G'day mate.
You've been with the boys for few months now and probably have had the chance to assess the whole situation.
What are your short term, mid term and long term goals for the period of your tenure as Bangladesh coach ??
Have you achieved any yet ??

In regard to our Bangladesh spinners well personally I was not a spinner as a player but I have bowled spin in a games late in my career and through my last 10 years of coaching I have bowled a lot of spin to understand it more from a technique and tactical perspective for my coaching.
During my time with NZ however I worked very closely with Dan Vettori and Nathan McCullum to name a couple challenging them around the tactical side of bowling and learning from them and supporting them as required. Both bowlers needed actually their own specific needs different from each other from me also.
I will and do do the same now with our spinners. I work on and coach on different areas with Shakib than what I do with Sunny and also different again for Razzaq. Ranges from technique, types of deliveries, pace to bowl, field placement and to tactics depending on experience and their own requirements support needed to prepare for each game. That gives you an example on three guys in our squad that all bowl left hand but all need specific requirements and that Is also the same for Naeem and Riyad and Nasir.
In regards to obstacles well we have them everyday, players maybe sick or injured, recovery from injury, new players coming into the squad need assistance to be ready, training facilities. As coaches we have them everyday. Some people have questioned me on the different languages but so far that has not been a problem and it has challenged me as a coach to find ways to get the message across.
In regard to the make up of the bowling attack well that is not really a question for me sorry. It's just not my area.
Hope that helps answer your questions.
Shane J

I think it would be unwise for a cricketer to do so
When he doesnt performs, the fans will ask him questions after questions and will insult him openly. Also, the fans will ask him questions that he'd prefer not to answer, questions like Are you satisfied, who do you think should be dropped and stuffs
And to add the that our players, no one apart from nafees or mushfiq really knows how to present themselves in front of public. And to add to that our players dont know proper english and so it would be very difficult for them to communicate in this forum, where most are fluent in english

Tamim can definitely speak English well - I believe he had an English medium education like many on this forum. Shakib's spoken English seems to be improving with each post-match ceremony haha.
It would be nice if a moderated chat with the players could be organised where the questions are vetted by the moderators so as to exclude abuse/obscenity/etc. (Like the chat that happened with Mushy and Razzak in WC 2007) Otherwise, I agree, they may be disheartened by some of the angry/frustrated comments here.

I also am not sure whether it is wise to have the players in BC. Some players have weak psyche, and the criticism we sometime tend to lavish could easily destroy a player's confidence. I have given up on Ash, but if Ash were to spend a day at BC, he almost certainly will give up on himself...

Hi Shane this is nice to find u here.My question to you.
In home series normally in ODI play with 2pacer+2SLa+2Part time offi. This is quiet effective no doubt. But thinking about future we should play with 3 pacers. So what u r thinking about the bowling combination?

A VERY IMPORTANT QUESTION
Weve heard fans, BCB members, newspapers and only coach Law talked about the Pakistan tour. But none of the players view have been heard. Do you think the players are not that brave enough to go to Pak or are they just carefree and hoping that nothing will happen?
Not asking your personal point of view because that could raise some issues

Nice work Coach. Give my congratulations to Stuart as well. I'm really impressed with the team's performance. The bowling was pretty good. Shahadat was too good. Don't know what happened to Mash. I'm especially impressed to see the running between the wickets coming from our BD batsmen. They have shown maturity and did not get themselves out in irresponsible shots, but at good bowling by Pakis unfortunately. Anyways, best of luck to Team BD for the following matches
