Default Congrats Kumar Sangakkara! Most double centuries after Sir Donald Bradman

Quote:
101.1 Neesham to Sangakkara, FOUR, and he brings up the special moment with a blazing drive through the covers as a champion batsman is saluted by the Wellington faithful. Ranks as one of the finest tons ever played in New Zealand, considering the circumstances his team was in, and his own personal form before that. What do you do when you fail twice in the first Test? You put your head down, you work in the nets, and you produce an immaculate 11th double hundred, putting him just one behind Sir Don as the most in Test history. A truly remarkable batsman of our age
Loving it!

A double ton by a sub-continent player in these conditions is truly a special one. The fact that it's his 11th, cements his place in test cricket's record book for a long while.

An all time great that a lot of people will end up under rating imo. He averages in the 30s in 3 countries and that's the reason people will look at his record and say he was really good but not top echelon which imo is wrong. The weak spots in his record, well last time he played in India was 2009 and it was 20008 in WI, I have a feeling if he was to have played their more recently that those records would be better, he's got a ton everywhere he's batted other than in WI, 2nd most amount of doubles, averaging 58, 38 tons.

As a non keeper he's played 82 matches, averages 69.85, 31 tons, averages above 40 in every country bar South Africa where he averages 37.

So for the all time sake, will he sneak in to the World 11 team? Even as a wicket keeper?

Congrats.

Sure he would.
After he retires from TEST cricket, Sri Lanka will definitely struggle in TEST cricket with other big boys. Sri Lanka is a good ODI team, but not a good TEST team without big names.

If you're talking all time test XI then he'd likely have to make it as a batsman as his keeping competition comes down to gilly or a more specialised keeper, of course it's a very subjective thing if someone rates his keeping then why can't they play him as the keeper but for me if he were to make it it would be as batsman, and for that he has a lot of competition e.g. Ponting, Richards, Lara, Tendulkar, chappel etc

I read on ICF that sanga only has 50+ avg in 3 away series outside SC. not sure if true. Great knock given the circumstances, was Mominul like...but judging by how well NZ are going conditions eased out considerably on day 2 onwards.

Never a fan of his batting or style. Great player, massive run maker, but something missing.
