Most underwhelming U19 team. Except for Shanto and Miraz none can bat. And no eye catching talent. Good thing Australia didn't come. We'd have probably come in 2nd in the group and then been taken out by India in the quarters.

What i have learnt over the years is not to pin all ur hope on just an eye catching talent ala ashraful rather pin all ur hopes on a not so eye catching but hardworking talent ala mushfiqur
Mehedy Hasan, Shanto, Pinak, Zakir, Mehede and Shaifuddin have all impressed me and have what it takes to make the national team in the next 5-6 years.

Australia wasn't in our group as far as I know, so even if Australia come we would have finished top, with australia in the WC, India could have finished 2nd in their group(though i doubt it) and the scenario you said might have happened

Should have reached the final. But oh well! Well done on being 3rd.
Should have bowled first in the semifinal. Lots of regrets!

I'd say Miraz is definitely a eye-catching talent. Maybe not in terms of pure, natural talent, but his leadership and batting are impressive, and he's a decent bowler too.
Given where we were before, 3rd isn't bad. Talent-wise, the U19 team is the same as before, it'll improve in the future hopefully, but I like how their decision-making and confidence improved at that age group. That's been the biggest weakness in all the levels from youth to NT.
Unfortunately, India and Australia will probably dominate the cricket scene in the foreseeable future as #1 and #2. India has the requisite manpower, $, and immense popularity to be #1. Australia has the $, a proven system, endless supply of power hitters and fast bowlers, and leadership within the ranks.

Yes, and I think the expectations created extra pressure for them.

Good batsman no doubt but I wonder what part of his captaincy impressed you in the semi final?

I said leadership, not captaincy.
I didn't watch the whole SF, so can't say how good his captaincy was overall. But generally, in this tournament, he seemed to be a good captain. Bowling selection/rotation is one area he can improve on.

Why Pinak with Shanto and Miraz? I am not understating his talent but he's not per with them at least in this tournament..
Or..Are those eggs Pinak laid was for you ? Omelets are yummy. Isn't it

If Aussies were there, they'd have played Bangladesh in quarter finals.

Before I comment. I want to ask this: how many u-19 matches have all of you watched in the past before comparing with this current batch. We saw this batch for 4 match live and they went on to win 5 out of 6 matches and became 3rd.
You need to understand that at the age of 16-18 you hardly mature. Give them a year or two, some FC cricket and A team tours and they will become better.
You don't become 3rd just on the basis of luck and average performance

Totally different situation back then. Our national team back then was crap. We were desperate to fast track some youth hence selectors focused on tamim, shakib and mushy.

Pinak's technique impressed me. Just cos he might be in a slump now doesnt mean he is a bad batsman... if u actually watch cricket u would know that.

Congratulations Bangladesh U-19 for becoming 3rd.
Did NZ ever became 3rd in this age group? How about England?

England won once
