Recently I got a real estate license as a part timer. During the pre-license class all they talked about is how important PROSPECTing is in this business. And all I could keep thinking is, if 50% of my prospects are like our cricketers, my real estate career is definitely doomed.
Anyways, I hope Marshall Ayub gets a chance this time around to show what he's got. I have been hearing a lot about him from everyone but unless he's given a chance would not know what the fuss is all about.

the main question marks in this prelim squad are: Farhad Reza, Mehrab Hossain, Souyma Sarker, Sabbir Rahman, Muktar Ali, Nur Hossain.
farhad - recent 5fer. experience since shahadat isn't there, he also has a surprisingly good FC record (24 average).
mehrab - think he had a good run in the last FC season? career FC record is one of the better ones in BD (37 average - 13 tons).
soumya - scored a ton in a recent practice match didn't he?
sabbir - his all round ability, he can hit boundaries and bowl leg spin. recent t20 form was good (got a 60 odd and a 50 odd in recent t20s).
muktar ali - his list A and t20 records so far are incredible (14 and 17 averages), FC record is really solid to (27 average).
nur - good list A form atm and a really good list A record actually (26 average), bowls leggies so some variation.
if i was a selector those are the positives i'd take from those players at current. at least this time even the not so good selections, or surprisingly selections have some sort of decent reasoning to them.

for the BCB XI match i'd go:
Mahmud Ullah, Anamul Haque, Ziaur Rahman, Jahurul Islam, Naeem Islam, Mominul Hoque, Shamsur Rahman, Marshall Ayub, Farhad Reza, Mehrab Hossain, Sajedul Islam, Souyma Sarker, Muktar Ali, Nur Hossain
1 jahurul
2 soumya
3 anamul
4 naeem
5 mominul
6 marshall
7 mehrab/shamsur?
8 zia
9 sajidul
10 muktar
11 nur
might have to put riyad at #7 but i really don't see any point of riyad playing this match, he's experienced, we know what he's got atm in tests in the middle order and in the lower order, his position in the test side should come down to whether we want to play him at #8 or not which means this match would be pointless for him.
for jahurul this is a chance to show selectors he can score big. for soumya it's a good experience and also a chance to show the selectors what he's capable of. for anamul the selectors get a look at him at #3, against decent opposition, in a longer format match. for naeem and mominul it's experience against good competition and possibly to duke out who gets into the national XI (if only one is to be chosen). for marshall, mehrab and shamsur it's just any chance for them to show they may deserve higher honours and should be a back-up/next in-line batsman for the national team). and for the bowlers it's a chance to show what they've got against better opposition, none of them have a huge amount of experience in international cricket.
farhad is like riyad, we know what there is to offer so why take a spot away from someone we know less about? i know it could be a chance for riyad to show himself capable in the middle order but he's had plenty of those chances in test cricket, also there are a bunch of solid middle order batsman atm that really should be ahead of him (shakib, mushy, nasir, naeem, mominul) and 2 of those players are in this squad already fighting for a middle order national team spot and they've both done better than riyad in the middle order in test cricket so why should he get the chance ahead of them?

Most probable Bcb XI team
Anamul (since he will open ahead of Jahurul anyways, he should get accustomed to opening and this will help)
Jahrul (Selectors love)
Naeem
Mominul
Marshall
Riyad
Ziaur
Forhad
Muktar
Sajidul
Nur

7 is to high for zia, maybe he can go 8 but against quality bowling he's a walking wicket more often than not.

Usually all. You pick 11 to bat and 11 to bowl such that every player would have had a chance to either bat or bowl.

Junaid deserve to be in practice match instead of soumya or mehrab jr atm. He is currently in good form, 2 good performances so far back to back.

Theoretically you are correct as it will be correct for Shahadat.

junaid has been in decent for, bet he still hasn't fixed his issues though...plus soumya scored a ton in a practice match recently and mehrab did well last FC season so there are reasons for selecting soumya and mehrab.

I hope they bring in under 19 bowlers. Give the NZ false sense of security. Then bring in the big guns for the real deal.

Ya agreed. Imrul, Raqibul, SN, Shahadat and Junaid have all rightfully been dropped. Let them top the domestic charts before they get considered again. They've all been getting in to the preliminary squads for far too along despite not being great in domestics.
At least in this squad they've picked all the top performers in domestics. That sends the right message and lets players know that being talented is not enough to get in to the squad anymore.
