EC secretary Abdur Rashid Sarker was called on to Bangabhaban...BDNEWS24 reports. Also adviserr Fajlul Haque and Azizul Haque are now in Bangabhaban....However, I thought there was a meeting of the advisers going on...so not sure why these two adviser's name were mentioned seperately....BDNEWS24 shows a picture of a meeting of the advisory council

The dailystar reports:
——————–
Iajuddin resigns from chief advisor’s post amid political crisis Justice Fazlul Huq given CA charge
UNB, Dhaka
Reconstitution of the council of advisors of interim government within 2-3 days
President Professor Dr Iajuddin Ahmed decided to stand down from the post of chief adviser (CA) of the nonparty caretaker government, amid an insurmountable standoff between two rival political camps over the general election.
He announced the decision while addressing the nation on the state-run radio and television tonight, after declaring a state of emergency.
The President invoked the emergency powers to stem the tide of unrest triggered by election-resistance programmes launched by a grand alliance led by Awami League.
He said, “The senior-most adviser has been given the charge of chief advisor before reconstituting the council of advisers of the interim caretaker government in a day or two.”

I guess this was inevitable. But what does this mean? Do we still have an election? The army takes the streets and prevent any public gathering?

"State of Emergency" by definition means that people's ancillery rights are not guaranteed. I have no idea where we're going with this.

Thats's not a wise move.

AL will object about Justice Fazlul Haque. As Iajuddin stepped down it would have been wise to dissolve the whole CT government and make a fresh one using advisors of previous CT government like Wahiduddin Mahmood et al if not Dr. Younus.

Indeed.
Rumor is: Justice Fazlul Haque was backed by the Jamayat-block.
If so: The charge of ""Non-paprty"" caretaker Govt. shifted from BNP to Jamayat.

I see more trouble. As per dristipat, Advisor (now chief advisor) Justice Falul Haq was most likely a Jamat Nominee, that may gives AL excuse to reject him.

A clean slate might have been better for all practical purpose.

I wonder what concession promises AL has given to the multinational comapies to get such widespread support from these foreigners. They don't give a damn about BD, you know. Its all money to them.

No party should show support early to a candidate they like, because as soon as they do that, the opposing party starts yelling against him. They should act unsure about candidates they like and pull the opposing party forward and act like they met at the middle.

If BD politicians were that wise we would have never been to such a situation like this.

It can work the other way too...if you don't want a guy, you can play devil's advocate and say you're quite happy with him and the opposition will get rid of him for you!!!

But, if the opposition really know, its their man, they'll just act like they reluctangly agreed, and you can't back paddle.

Another way is to ask the two major alliances to submit list of 100 peoples for the CA post in a sealed envelope. There has to be a match somewhere!!

Who I'm kidding...they will submit names like Falu, Mirja Abbas, Pintu, Hazi Selim, Mofazzal Maya etc. as their list of "Non-Party", "Neutral" nominee for CA.

Each party needs to submit 75,000,001 names. (assuming 15 koti pop.)

Bangladesh has 140/145 mill people. But i think if we start the process of elimination, we'll run out of options very soon.

I feel like whipping one of the big parties with 1 cane, and the other with 2.

Whoever you all support, definitely be sad that we have come to this point.

More seriously all we can do is wait and watch. At least Mr. Iajuddin has stepped down from the post of CA so that is a step in the right direction. He had to call state of emergency. I dont think anyone can or should say that was wrong. The way the AL was damaging public and private property, the number of people getting killed and hurt due to these oborodhs and all, this was very required. If the AL went into election right after BNP handed over power then they would have won this one because people were fed up with BNP's corruption. Now the situation is very different. All the hartals and jalao purao of AL has brought back memories of AL tenure in 96, so I think the BNP has been the more clever party politically. They just levelled the field for election. Both these party need a major overhaul in their leadership barring which they will very soon become extinct.

Iazuddin has just declared on BTV that he will resign and the Election on 22nd is postponed. A new Advisory committee will be formed which will reprogram the election on later date!

Is that to reorganize the CT government under the directive of President (as he mentioned in the speech) or they resigned on their own ?
