Congrats to India! They truly deserved the WC. Give their board credit. India messed up bad in 2007 and they made sure that this time around they created a more balanced team with more youth and then have the elder players just focus on tests. Its been a win win situation. Their test team is #1 and now they've won the WC. Also what was their key to their success? They have a batting lineup that is rock solid from 1-7. That's the key to winning the WC. Without a solid batting lineup from 1-7, its almost impossible to win the WC. Watch out for them in the next WC. Only player that's gone from this team is Sachin. They'll be a handful once again.

might not be all Indians necessarily. my friends from london are saying that there were a lot of balouchis and afghans celebrating the win over pakistan. even in pakistan afghan refugees were celebrating.

Bwaah there are better analysts than you as well. Others performed poorly because they didn't handle the pressure of world cup well. England of 1979 was statistically better side than India of 1983. Only that on the day of the final, England were beaten to pulp then. India handled the mighty west Indians very well. Were the kiwis better than SA this world cup. But see how the SA choked. ICC rates India quite highly on consistency going by ratings. Going by the world cup victory today, they have handled pressure well. Sore losers who cannot congratulate make no difference. In fact this rubs on them so well that it makes victory so much sweeter.

Well, Sri lanka had a very easy time beating Canada, kenya and Zim by huge margins, they were tested by pakistan and NZ, did not really have to fight very hard for wins. India did this against the Aussies and the Pakistanis, though i was supporting SL, i daresay that India deserved this win and sweeter still in their own backyard.
Still, the Asians will not have it easy at all when the next WC is played in Australia and NZ.

Congratulation to
India from a tiger fan. They deserved it this time. It's a gift to Sachin for serving his country for such a long time. Enjoy the moment, you, the Indian fans across the globe.
The achievement by the Indian team will definitely spark an outburst of exuberant passion for cricket in the region. I hope that the success of the six weeks tournament will bring peace in the region.
I will buy sweets to enjoy the moment with my Indian friends in the office on Monday !

India won it and they were the only deserving team. They have best batsmen, best bowler(ZaK) and the best captain. Another good pacer in the side and they will be next mighty power.

Well done India.
MS Dhoni as a captain has the WC, the T20WC, an IPL championship, A champions Trophy T20 and leading team to the #1 Test ranking.....WOW!!!!
Great coaching and team selection as well. They knew their weakness was the bowling so they built a batting line up to minimize that damage. (on the contrary, our bowling is our strength and we've sacrificed it by trying to put bits and pieces allrounders to try to build a long batting line up).
Judging from the reaction at my work place, it looks like India's WC win has introduced a lot of Americans to cricket and some of them are already curious about IPL next week. That could be great for Cricket.

you can see the importance the players give to gary kirsten, he too was carried by the players around the ground sachin style. paddy upton the mental conditioning coach too was specifically mentioned.
one of the biggest contributors to this team's better performance under pressure has been due to mike horn, a south african adventurer. http://www.espncricinfo.com/icc_cric...ry/501830.html
he was there at the finals as well.

both India and sri lanka defeated australia in australia in their last tours. only BD and pak need to step up the plate. unless aus unearths a horde of talent in the next couple of years.

Even though Australia is more beatable nowadays, I feel that they'll improve by the time the next WC rolls by and beating them at their place in WC matches would be a big challenge. India certainly have a good chance though.

Congrats India! was rooting for SL but there's no doubt who were the better team today. Feel good for the little master though. Would've been a shame had one of the greatest cricketers ever to play the game had finished his career without a world championship.

Congratulations Team India. Such a moment for India, thanks all for all your wishes in BC. we fans are soaking it up now ! If not for anyone other than MSD and his captaincy there, we could not have done it. He has this knack, luck and the midas touch for sure.
Hats off to him and a through team performance through out the tourney, each game one person or the other stood up and MSD chose to put up his hands in the finals. It was touching to see them cry and go through the emotions.
Cheers Team India and thanks again for all the support here in BC !

Next World cup is 4 years away and a lot could happen. India played to their strength and it was a deserving win.

Congratulations Team India.
You have won it in style. Thoroughly deserving.
India have defeated the last four (infact all) world champions in a row to win the cup, that was something too. West Indies, Australia, Pakistan and now Sri Lanka.
Very well played SL.
Too bad they had to be on the receiving end for second consecutive time.

India won because the did the little things right. They played better under pressures and their bowlers and batters delivered when it mattered.
Congrats!

there were only 2 "strong teams" in this Cup. India and South Africa. We all know what happened to the saffers, and India won because their weak bowling stood up and delivered when it mattered most. kudos. they're batting was never in question, with their collective strike rate over 100 for the entire tournament - probably the first time its ever happened.
SL - they were not as strong a team as they have been in the past.
AUS - no where near their 99-07 calibre.
PAK - they were probably the 3rd strongest team in the tourney behind IND and SA.
NZ - the most surprisingly successful team this Cup. very pleased with how they fought. in the end just an over-achieving bunch. a lot of talent though in southee, williamson, and ryder. mccullum and taylor are two of the most over rated guys in world cricket.
Eng - no comment
WI - arguably worse than us.
BD - terribly misfit batting lineup was made to look worse by choking under home pressure for 58 and 78. other than that, fielding and bowling wasn't terrible at least.
IRE - showed that they belong and deserve serious consideration for test status despite what Johnston and his naive honesty might admit. the truth is no one is ready for test cricket until years/decades after they start playing.
all other teams not worth mentioning.

India were simply the best team of the tournament. They had the 3 toughest knock out matches.
QF:- Against the former champions Australia, who were like a hurt tiger when they had just lost to Pak ending their 34 match winning streak, a captain determined as ever. But The Indian so called weak bowling did not allow Australia to break free. Then they chased in style
SF:- Against regional rivals, Pak. Such a big match where the PM's came. Pakistan came first in group, had defeated SL, Aus though just lost to Kiwi's . Pak simply devastated the Windies in semifinals. A tight match, Batting did fine by posting 260 (Which was a good score) and then it was again the so called weak bowling that came to rescue
Finals:- A very good effort by Indian bowling again. It was only in last 5 overs Sri Lankan batsman fought back. And then they simply batted like champions.
There is no doubt they are the Champions. There was nothing as weak bowling or strong batting, they simply were the strongest team. They play as a team, play with a plan, bowling has always supported the batting and vice versa. In knock out any team would have come, they would have defeated them

2011 WC:- Asia (India)
2015 WC:- Asia (Ind, SL or Pak)
2019 WC:- Asia(BD), hope the interest in cricket gives some genuinely good players and a good captain.
2023 WC:- Asia (Afg)
The others can stop thinking. The Cup is not leaving Asia
