Javed, the grafter, was known for his gritty defense and occupying the crease, in fact that was his label.. "test cricketer". I am not a fan of Javed and earnestly hoped that we have found the opening pair with another better opener with Nafees. If there was one thing that Javed gave us,, it was the defence, prolonging the match and delaying the invevitable. He did carry the bat through the innings couple of times, first I think was during his Zimbabwe tour. His other job, to take the shine off the new ball, was perfomred not so terribly either. In our fragile top order, he was the one who remained the stable one even during the Lords matches where he won the man of the series award.
Nevertheless, its not like Javed was the savior for this tour. What was intended was the fact that we opted for two debutant openers than slowly blending experience in Test cricket. Thats the equation I am not understanding very well and fear that that strategy may expedite our innings defeats. Dont mind the youth if it is an Ashraful/Nannu.. lets see how the debutant openers handle the NZ attack. I will still be paying full price to watch the games despite all odds against a match beyond the 3rd day..I know I am not the only one

forget win, draw.. or score big.. Thats out of the picture. Just some good fielding... no dropping catches.. some good bowling attack. For the Batting part.. I expect nothing from these 11.. except, Ash, Tamim, and Aftab. If those three can maintain their good form.. I'll be happy.

o.k. i am really upset right now, target revised: if we can get even 100 batting first i will consider that as a blessing in disguise, this pitch is a nightmare ESPECIALLY FOR BANGLADESHI BATSMEN

Forget batting and hope for decent bowling? You're out of your mind. Our bowling is even more pathetic than our batting. I say we look to survive 4 days and restrict the opposition to less than 500 every innings.

too bad three debutants,,,,,,,........ I missing Rafique dearly. I think Razzak is still missing few tricks, Rafique would have been fantastic . I mean, true Rafique havn't played good in NCL, but still it was quite foolish to drop him for the test series. we still need one more year of rafique.
|
valoi technique. NZ er 11 joner birudhdhe amader 12 jon player. hope NZ will not realize that. so aftab will bat twice. first time as a hard hitter, 2nd time as a test batsman like javed's proxy. thanks mahfiz raju for ur future vision.

Rajin should be considered ahead of Zunaid/Tamim.

I just wonder about JO lovers claim that he is a test batsman. At best he is a golli cricketer. It has been statistically proven that he is not a test batsman at all. But reading at the newspapers in BD and the posting of some JO fan here I have the feeling that he was the messiah of our cricket.

good thing is, the law of averages. ash has lost 3 straight tosses, and there is only a 6% chance of losing 4 straight...so hopefully he wins, and we put kiwis into bat.
best chance of prolonging the match and easing pressure from our side.
|
Sadly, the Laws of Probability does not work out like that. It is true that winning 4 tosses in a row has a probability of 6.25%. However, that is with uncertainty. Here we already have knowledge [ i.e. we are certain ] of the first 3 events.
Hence, the probability of the fourth or the next is still 50%.

Just use our players average ( apprx 25) and a strike rate of 50%, you can calculate how long the match is going to last.. which is about a day. NZ batting for day and a half and in the 2nd innings we do our best,, there.. you have a 4 day match already. NZ will be doing some batting practice before their England party..The question is,, can the players atleast perform to their average with a less strike rate. The good thing is,, Jamie is going to try and so will the new players to change their fortune,, who knows, we might be surprised to find that we are still playing the 4th day tea, its possible. Who wouldve beleived beforehand that we were in a position to win against Australia/Pakistan? Tigers are their best when they are cornered... I personally feel, we are at that position in the tour.

Let's play hard and try to win back some respect for this match, that's all I'm asking.
By the way, what time is the match supposed to start in Eastern time (in Toronto)?
