What exactly is the role of Walsh? if physio is changing the bowlers action?

Does the Physio have dual role? or it was done to avoid injury?

He would be great in odis and tests especially. I think this kid has more potential than Taskin. Taskin seems to be about pace and hitting the pitch hard but Mustafizur is more tricky to face and has that extra x factor about him. But them two bowling from both ends would be a great combo!

It would be fantastic if he beefs up a little more and bowls 5ks faster but that is not the primary concern for me because his line and length and wrist movement is what is more important. Jeez all these young kids coming in are performing from the word go.

I just realized I wasn't actually here or watched his debut game... I thought that India series was his debut series... where have I been?

But if I were here, I'd have said the same thing. It was against the norm. He was literally plucked from the streets without much trainer or prep. Of course, people were surprised. Don't act like you guys knew he'd be as good as he has been! Pfft!

Are we positive that BD took the correct Mustafizur Rahman to NZ?

Remember about six months ago, Donal C opened a thread about Mustafizur called for chucking...and it turn out it was a lesser known SLA. .heheee

Was worried the injury and break would hamper his development. Even ignoring coaching etc, the shoulder itself feeling different, the muscles being slightly different due to the injury e.g. The muscle make up, scar tissue involvement, tendons, ligaments etc.

Being a bowler there is always a risk especially with a shoulder injury that you won't be the same even after rehab.

I second him. Plus we shouldn't send musta in this IPL.

There is definitely a change in his action. Am I the only one it is blatant to? His action is retrained and it is restricting his range of motion while bowling. I can only hope it is a precautionary measure so as not to aggravate the injury in the early stages of his comeback. If it is permanent then we can forget about him playing Tests. If you look at his wickets against SA in his debut Test none of them were cutters. They were accurate deliveries close to 140 kph. Don't think he can hit that kind of pace with this new, artificial action. The efficacy of his cutters too are reduced if his regular deliveries are only 125 kph.

BCB ruined his career by letting him play in these T20 leagues knowing that he wasn't 100% fit.

Whilst your back there why don't you quote me... I remember arguing against people saying he won't be a success because he can't bowl 140+ fast

How was his bowling today? Any observations?

Was he using the new action or his older one and how was his speed

Slow at 130 , dropping to 117 and totally ineffective at picking up wickets but great line and length

Didn't see his second spell

But his action looked good, slightly different than before, but still same style

His speed was decent 127-134, with slower ones 112-118

Good line and length, decent movement away from rhb and into latham

His cutters were bouncing and spitting.

He looked a threat throughout even bowling 10kmh slower than usual

^^ I don`t think he will be able to live up to his word given Mustafiz is fit to play. However if he is tactful he can grab some commitments from India

Now he has a slow ball and a slower ball.... batsman have plenty of time to just wait for the ball, so their inability to read off of his hand is not that important anymore.

Once he is bowling back that fast - he will be back to taking wickets every over. Was somewhat disappointing in NZ actually - i was actually excited to see how fast he can bowl in those conditions...

Protecting assets? Then pay him properly. Indians can't participate in other leagues. They are being protected. He are also paid well. You can't protect a player without making him financially secure (at least close to his actual worth).

I feel the same. When you are hitting 140kmph, that variation between the slower ball cutters in the 120's or the slower balls a tad slower will be a deadly surprising factor to all batsman. And these slower balls/cutters should be bowled atleast once or twice an over, not every damn ball. In the NZ tour it seemed the other way around, bowling 3-4 slower balls and a few quicker ones (which lacked his original pace).

I had argued with someone whom said Fizz will be 'figured' out, just like many others, as he is just new to the scene. But it doesn't work like that, because batsman already know by now that he bowls good slower balls/cutters yet still fail in picking them (usually). His stock quick ball, his variations, are factors that will keep him taking wickets. So long as he is not becoming predictable, if that is to occur, and if he fails to pick that pace up, I do fear that his performances will gradually drop.

Looking forward to seeing how he goes when he is entirely "fit", since many are still stating that he somehow isn't.
