Felix 'Tito' Trinidad vs Fernando Vargas - Highlights

December 2nd 2000, the world was treated to an unforgettable night of boxing in Mandalay Bay, Las Vegas. Fernando Vargas, at the tender age of just 23, stood opposite against arguably the best fighter in the world, Puerto Rico's fierce Felix Trinidad. Both fighters were undefeated, both had sensational knockout records, and both were determined to inflict a first time defeat on one another.

What followed was 12 rounds of sensational action encompassing 6 knockdowns, repetitive low-blows, and endless exchanges of relentless attacks. Although it proved to be a compelling fight for the fans, it would unfortunately be to the detriment of the courageous lion, Fernando Vargas.

Being regarded as one of the best young fighters of the sport, many wondered why such a prestigious talent would be risked against a monstrous Felix Trinidad, who had knocked out 31 of his 35 previous opponents, leaving a stream of bodies in his destructive path. It was inevitable that should the young Vargas be drawn in to a gun-fight with such an adversary, he would pay the price. And pay he did. The accumulative damage he took against a relentless Trinidad, regrettably ended his career as a top level fighter. Unable to retrieve the momentum he once had, Fernando would go on to fight 10 more times, and losing 4 of them.

However despite him not reaching his full potential and acquiring the hall of fame status he was destined to achieve, the fans still look back and admire the ample heart and courage he showed in the late 90's and early 00's.

Muhammad Ali vs Cleveland Williams
Ali jabbed and battered Williams at will before dropping him for good, and the referee was wise to stop this bout. Ex-champ Mike Tyson has been quoted saying this is his favorite bout featuring Ali, as he admired Ali's physical condition at this point in his career.
Many believe including me that this was the greatest performance of the great Ali, on this night he was unbeatable he had everything power, speed, movement he had it all.

Evander Holyfield vs Riddick Bowe

The first of the furious action-packed fights between Evander Holyfield and Riddick Bowe. Holyfield shows his heart and will going toe to toe with the 6'5 235 pound Bowe. A great skilled action fight between two terrific Heavyweights. Bowe displays his awesome skills and in-fighting in this classic fight. Holyfield shows tremendous courage and valiant in the face of defeat.Holyfield went down in 11th as he had fallen into the ropes and was hit with a right hand to the back of the head. Fight was named Ring Magazine fight of the year.

Hamed will always be remembered for attracting new fans to the sport and for bringing more attention and money to the lower weight divisions.

I do box but Didnt/won't turn amateur or professional due to too many injuries I have suffered, the last injury was nearly a year ago when i broke my foot in two different places whilst playing football(soccer). If i were to take on boxing more seriously (boxing career)I wouldnt last long as I would keep braking down.

Carl Froch recorded a unanimous points victory over Arthur Abraham in Helsinki to regain the WBC super-middleweight title. His dominance was reflected in the judges' scorecards; two gave it to him 120-108 with the other at least giving Abraham a round at 119-109 i had it 120-108. Prediction was 116-112 for Froch.
Ward defeated bika by UD judges had it 118-112(x2) and 120-108 i had it 114-114, the judges were very biased and the scorecards reflect this. prediction was Ward by UD 116-112
Marquez vs Katsidis lived up to the hype and is a fight of the year candidate. marquez got dropped by a big left in the third round but slowly gained the momentum and in round nine put thogether a combination that rocked katsidis and forced the refree to stop the bout. 9th round TKO win for marquez i had predicted 11th round TKO for Marquez.

Victor Ortiz Greatest Hits
Ortiz was born and raised in Garden City, Kansas, the second of three children of Mexican immigrant parents. When he was seven years old, Ortiz's mother abandoned his family for a relationship with another man. Shortly thereafter, Ortiz began boxing at the Garden City Boxing Club at the insistence of his father, an alcoholic who often beat his children following his wife's departure.When Ortiz was 13 years old, his father also abandoned the family, and Ortiz and his two siblings were turned over to the Kansas foster care system. However, he continued to box and won a Kansas Golden Gloves championship. After a brief foray into drug dealing as a teenager, Ortiz found his true calling.

Ortiz was one of the most promising young fighters until he stepped in to the ring with Marcos Maidana which resulted in him quitting after six gruelling rounds

I watched both fights, Ortiz was on the Undercard. I found nothing wrong with the Judges scoring it a draw, after the 10-7 3rd round for Ortiz, I scored the next 5 rounds for his opponent and gave Oritz the 10th.

Fight of the Year, talked about it in BC chat ... Maidana is dirty little fighter but he's definitely has the biggest heart in the 140lb division and he's the biggest puncher in that division as well.

On to the Khan/Maidana ... You can knockdown Maidana but you can't finish him, he showed alot of heart coming in and getting tagged by Khan's Blazing Hand Speed. Khan has the 2nd Fastest Hands in Boxing behind Manny, but once he caught Khan, Amir showed alot of heart taking those punches as well. The 3rd ,7th and 10th and 12th Rounds was alot of Drama for Amir, he was out on his feet but some how managed to stay up.

Fair Decision I had Amir winning by 2pts as well, When Amir was boxing, he was class above Marcos but i think he answered alot of questions about his jaw, it still his Major Weakness but the amount of punches he took proved that he doesn't have a glass Jaw and that he has a lot heart. He took a fight that alot of people said he shouldn't take and got past a very big Test

He's going to be a Major draw in the States, not because he's Pakistani/British and Muslim but because he's a top 5 talent in Professional Boxing.

Khan actually has faster hands than Manny. Roach and Manny admit it, Manny has much faster footwork. third best fight of the year for me behind Marquez vs Katsidis and Froch vs Kessler. I scored the fight 115-111 for Khan. prediction was Khan by late stoppage; maidana preformed lot better than i thought he would do. He kept coming foward all night and i didnt think he would be able to do that. Khan got badly rocked in round 10.
On the undercard i had Ortiz winning by 2 points. Degale the new british champion in only his 9th fight, he stopped the durable paul smith in round nine.

Highlights
Khan VS Maidana

Ortiz VS Peterson (undercard)

Bernard Hopkins will attempt to become the oldest person to win a title and pascal will try to prove that his win over Chad Dawson wasnt a one off fight and its his time to rule the light heavyweight devison.

Hopkins has the experience on his side and has the better defence where as Pascal has the speed and power on his side.

Prediction: The experienced underdog Hopkins by close decision

Bernard Hopkins missed a chance to become the oldest boxer to hold a major world title, fighting to a majority draw with Canadian Jean Pascal on Saturday night.The 45-year-old Hopkins (51-5-2) rallied after being knocked down in the first and third rounds.
American judge Steve Morrow scored it 114-112 for Hopkins, but Canadian Claude Paquette (113-113) and Belgium's Daniel Van de Wiele (114-114) had it even, which made it a majority draw and allowed Pascal (26-1-1) to keep his WBC and IBO light heavyweight titles.I personally thought hopkins will win the fight which in my eyes he clearly did. hopkins deserves to hold the record and the wbc belt.

Prediction was Hopkins via close decision.
My Card:
1 = 10-8
2 = 10-9
3 = 10-8
4 = 9-10
5 = 9-10
6 = 9-10
7 = 9-10
8 = 9-10
9 = 9-10
10 = 9-10
11 = 9-10
12 = 9-10

Total = 115-111
