Yes, numbers are not the be-all and end-all, but they don't lie so blatantly either. If he was really one of the top two performers in the team, it would have reflected in the stats, however slightly.

The coach and captains words are what you make of it - read Anamul's interview and you'll see how happy he is to have secured 7th (not 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, or 6th, but 7th) position - again, signs of a tendency to applaud mediocrity. And Sarwar Imran isn't the brightest coach out there, as he has proven during the tournament. Not claiming to know more than them - just can't trust people who are so easily satisfied. If this was Shakib talking, I'd definitely get excited.

Oh and there's no point comparing the Bangladeshi pay scale to the western world. Yes, we would ideally like to get to a point where our sportsmen get rewarded at a scale comparable to the top teams in the world, but the reality is that two lakhs is still quite a bit of money in Bangladesh, especially for someone who ended up 13th on the overall bowler's list (further down if you consider economy/#games played:wickets ratios). If he gets it then why doesn't Liton Das?
The criteria was simply for whoever scored the most runs and grabbed the most wickets. Taskin was clearly not our "best" bowler but he ended up with the most scalps. In this I don't think they were giving a reward to them for finishing 1st and 13th in the Cup, but rather being first on the team.

In terms of expectations this team probably exceeded them, without playing beyond their abilities. The middle order was non-existant the entire time and they stil managed to finish 7th. Most of us didn't even expect them to get out of the Plate stage.

We can cry out for the Cup before every tournament starts, but the reality is that we're not that good at any level or any format and it will probably be 15 or more years before we enter any tournament as one of the favorites.

If it makes you feel better, I'm sure the pay-out for winning the cup would have been more than 2 lakhs! In that sense they got a modest reward for a modest performance.

Abahoni and Mohammedan, each should buy a franchise. Without them, public interest will not come.

Who really cares if their district wins!

i'm glad the franchise system has been put into play, maybe it will be the answer maybe it won't be but something big needed to be done to improve the quality of the FC system in BD domestic cricket and finally something has been done. now players are going to have to work hard to keep their spot because no franchise will want a player who doesn't perform.

This is a big move for BD cricket. Hope we can get sponsors. Publicity and visibility will really help our cricket.

I was in the company of a few ex players last night. All seemed upset at Spot not because of what he did, but because he was stupid enough to get caught.

Maybe the problem isn't limited to just one man in a culture of "patano khyala".

There's a good chance that the franchise system, provided they pay the players well and on time, will make our FC and List A less farcical and more competitive because of its commercial nature. That would add quite a lot of value to our otherwise meaningless domestic stats. Add proper and professional coaches and scouts, multi-level pipeline (U13, U16, U19, A), and state-of-the-art facilities including sporting pitches, and those domestic stats can become actually meaningful enough for us to assess the quality of a player for higher levels such as Academy and A Team cricket. The process of picking the right players for a sustainable HP program would also become more effective.

Proper promotion, merchandising and TV as well as radio and Internet broadcasts will generate quite a bit of public interest and add to the rapid development we all seek with winning results in the not too distant future.

This is definitely a step in the right direction, at least in theory. But we better adjust our expectations in accordance to all of the traditional mitigating factors that stagnate and even subvert such good ideas and starts.

-Not recognising FICA and endlessly arguing even when it was the fault of BCB
-Too much love for Pakistan and so was almost about to put players in harms way
- Disruption in dhaka premier league
- No foreign coach for U-19
- No pace bowling academy

Will not put Shakib incident here since it is an urban myth put together by our incompetent news reporters..

Pros
- Organised BPL in the shortest time and the tournament was a success despite some payment concerns. The true test will be to get good players for the next edition
- Organised WC which was mostly deemed a success
- Got better sponsors and more money
- Organised Euro tour to ensure players get adequate prep for T 20
- Got FC players under a payment scheme so that players can persue a career in Cricket.
- Got NCL under franchise system which will only ensure more cash flow
- Got Richard McInnes to run the academy
- More frequent A Team schedules.

Overall, He is no Saber Hossain but we have always had much worse than him.
Agreed! I would say he is the best one so far other than our Saber Hussain Chowdhury. The reason was simple. He was involved as an organizer in the past as it was mentioned in the newspaper when he was appointed in the first place. I do see positive from him since Akram Khan threatened to quit during the last Asia Cup. I am not sure whether it was to present himself as a vital candidate for the ICC presidency or ICC might have informed that BD might receive less opportunity to play longer version unless our domestic structure is strong or it could be the success of BPL (his daughters are the owner of two franchises) or the success of Asia Cup. Whatever it could be, we, as a fan, will be behind him as long as our cricket sees the upward trend!

Monkfish tails are also known as the poor man's lobster.

Your facetious comment might backfire. Monkfish tails have become such a chef favorite that these days they command prices equivalent to or more than lobster. Lobster might end up being the middle class's monkfish.

Other side of the coin :

- If anything goes wrong during any game, franchise companies may pose threats to halt the league since they will have more power

- High chances that those franchises will have strong BCB link. So, BCB may act to please them.

- Franchise companies may indulge in unlawful dealings (under the table) which we have already witnessed in Premier league of Cricket and Football

- FC cricketers will have to abide by franchise companies demands. For example, companies may force certain well known cricketer to promote their products either by attending their functions or doing adverts etc which cricketers may not be comfortable doing it.

Unlikely. It's pretty much the same business people on both sides.

I think our players would be only too happy to do that.

Excellent post BTW

I think involving few teams of D P L is a good idea. They have nothing but have passion for cricket with supporters.

According to this media release there will be single league format with top 2 teams playing for final !!!
So there will be no 2nd phase? So more games are going to be curtailed ? So we are going to play < 30 F C matches this year?
Its too little .

This is actually alarming. I really wanted to believe that Plabon incident was just an isolated thing but had a feelings that he is just a small fish and the sharks are still on the loose. I guess I was right..

Last thing I want to see is Bangladesh cricket being taken over by those goons who actually ruined Pak cricket. Thanx to Mash for taking that bold step and for not selling himself out. Now its upto other cricketers to follow his footsteps..

Agree with everything you said. So the bottom line is we can never be in a win-win situation in this corrupted culture.

I hate to admit it but Lotus Kamal has taken a number of positive steps. He has turned out to be one of the better managers of BCB! It must be a statistical aberration! Once in a while you may just see a good outcome from a totally authoritarian and corrupt political system.
