Default We Are Now Equal 9th

the new icc rankings are out and we are now level on points with zimbabwe and we can go above them if we win more games than them in the upcoming icc tropy

this will be a big achivement if we manage to move above them as we will be considered better than zimbabwe on paper instead of just the public opinion

1. Austrilia - 131
2. South Africa - 124
3. Pakistan - 111
4. New Zealand - 111
5. India -111
6. Sir Lanka - 107
7. West Indies - 102
8. England - 99
9. Zimbabwe - 33
10. Bangladesh - 33
11. Kenya - 0

We are still at number 10 and Zimbabwe at 9. Difference of point upto third decimal point is considered for the ranking.

Now, last time I checked we were 2 points below. we did not play any games since then. why are we equal now? is it because zimbos lost to SA and lost some point?

Bangladesh's rating = 32.609 (750/23)
Zimbabwe's rating = 33.136 (729/22)

So yeah, Zim is still the 9th and we are the 10th in the ODI ranking.

I don't feel any excitement as we won't win in CT and have no practice matches with big teams before worldcup. So 2007 worldcup will be just another worldcup like 2003.

It should not have boiled down to Zim losing to SA to be close to us. We should have toppled them by now and never look back. Whitewash, grey wash, favorites on foreign soil, how many threads were open?

33 points is not something to be proud of. Let me know when we cross 50.

The next team to target is England. If we are not able to go past Zimbabes how are we going go past a team that has three times as much points?

I think we will loose to India under 19 team with this lack of preperation. There are 22 players on contract and, as such, it is not that difficult to play 9-on-9 games. We should be practicing like there is no tommorow. We got to win at least two CT games.

We should already have crossed Zim.In CT we will win against Zim.Even if we loose to SI and/or WI(Allah na koruk), Zim will loose against them all the same. That should earn us few points. Also, we are going to get Zim for 5 more ODIs soon. So, sooner or later we are going to cover up those few decimal points.

But, considering our goal, 8th place is not the one we should be targeting. One realistic goal should be to be within best 6 by next world cup.

Oh, what a Great Leap Forward!
Almost 6 years and we finally managed to level with Team No 9! Given that team has been the bigger crap than us for the past 2 years.
Oh no, we still havent, we r No 10. damn those decimals. thats why i never liked maths.

On a serious note, how long its gonna take us for the Giant Leap Ahead to cross team no 8? seems like the bridge btw "us" and "them" are bigger than jamuna and padma bridge combined.

Very disappointing comment ... at least from you! Padma bridge not even has a design yet! I can see we are kicking No 8's back just after CT. Ash is opening, Reza and Sakib in the middle remember? ... since when you joined SS club?

I guess it all comes down to Bd vs Zim game. Whoever wins become number 9. Whoever loses shut up.

Really! That is what you thought? The national team is scheduled to play an Indian 11. That team will most likely be composed of wannabees,

So the stakes are higher than I originally thought. Should the government call a national holiday if we beat ZIM and become #9?

It will be an unofficial holiday (doesn't matter if we win or lose) since the opposition will call for a hartal I presume.

The way we played in our last couple of tours, and the way Zimbabwe has been performing against not-so-strong teams, I fear that the tables may turn around, that is, we may see a Zimbabwe win rather than watching us achieving any more upsets.

Overcoming Zim shouldn't be a matter of concern.I am very much hopeful that by world cup 2011 we will be crossing at least WI.Recent points of WI has come due to their success in DLF cup.Considering the players they have now include oldies like Lara, Chandarpaul and we have our team filled with promising young boys, I am hopeful that we will be ahead of WI by world cup 2011.Target should be to cross another team and become No 6.Who knows, there might be plenty of surprises (in terms of consistency and wins of course) waiting for us in next 4 years.

People in this forum are considering WI too lightly. They do have some very bright prospects in the future. I personally think it'd be India and England that'll be languishing at the bottom of ICC rankings in the long run. Bangladesh and WI would be somewhere between 5-7 in the intervening time.

The only significance of this info is that The next few encounters between BD & ZIM will become the Rank decider between these two teams (for 9th & 10th places). That will surely make the coming BD-ZIM home series more interesting because it will motivate both teams to fight harder. Not good news for BD... eh?
