Dileep/Wisden Voice:

If you really want to get to the root of Bangladesh's problems on the cricket field, go investigate the ineptitude and corruption at the BCB. A CEO from the outside will be fantastic if he isn't run out of town within a month.

Actually cricket in India and Pakistan may not be run that much differently, the difference being those countries are blessed with many better cricketers than us. And they have institutions that have been around longer. You could comment on that, but your description of the major problems facing Indian cricket is not that different from those facing BD.

Politics is arguably Bangladesh's biggest problem and has by now surpassed poverty, the birth rate, etc. Politics has ruined just about every institution in Bangladesh, or prevented them from flourishing. So why should crikcet be any different?

If some strong leadership could be installed and allowed to kick ***, the rest is not rocket science. This Board produces 5 valid next steps every week, and the people associated with cricket in Bangladesh are not stupid either. So remove the people at the BCB, turn the sport over to professionals who understand the modern game - both how to develop the talent and market the product - and in time you will see positive results.

Regards,

Rafiq

Today's DS article on the CEO vs General Secretary role is a good illustration of the above points. Cricket is too lucrative for the people in power to give up. It's a money machine, who in their right mind woud cede to a CEO?

It's funny, isn't it? Day by day, sport becomes more professional. Yet, the men who govern the sport - in the sub-continent - are usually politicians or businessmen who are just there for the power. The potential for success is almost frightening, but as long as these clowns are in charge, there's no hope of catching Australia.
Just as an example....I have watched kids play football in India and B'desh. They are any day more talented than the ones in Japan. Yet, Japan regularly qualify for the World Cup. Does that tell you something? In African countries, the talent level are so high that they do well inspite of the wretched administration. Here, we have a good level of talent, but it can climb over the barriers set up by those in power. It's a shame because there's no place like the sub-continent when it comes to a passion for sport.
