AFC President's Cup 2009
Abahani bank on home advantage
|
| Abahani will face Sri Lanka Army in the 2009 AFC President's Cup Group B opener on Tuesday. |
DHAKA: Bangladesh champions Dhaka Abahani will be counting on home advantage in the Group B matches of the 2009 AFC President’s Cup beginning on Tuesday.
Abahani will face Sri Lanka Army in the opening match at the Bangabandhu National Stadium.
Last year’s semi-finalists Ashgabat, however, would like to improve upon their previous performance. The Turkmenistan giants will meet Sri Lanka Army on Thursday and complete the fixture playing against Abahani on Saturday.
Abahani manager Satyajit Das Rupu said his side was focused on the group stage.
“We would like to be in the top four teams of the competition and have been practicing hard to achieve our goal,” said Rupu.
Ashgabat coach Boris Grigoryants expressed full confidence in his players. ‘We are here to win the group and we would like to win the title. We are ready for the championship,” he said.
Sri Lanka Army coach Major S Pathmanathan said: “This is for the first time that we are playing in an AFC competition. We would like to prove our mettle.”

Who else, but Abahoni??
We win, again.
Congrats to the boys.
Now keep the fingers crossed for the next game against the stronger Ashgabats.
Sounds more like Ash-gobots.

Dissapointed by the finishers. kompokkhey dui hali goal miss korsey. We need a striker badly. Can salauddin put on his jersey back? Even though the score is 2-1 all three goals were scored by Abahani.

it ended goalless. Last minute one shot hit the crossbar of the visitor. Abahoni players look so small compare to their counterpart. Their GK was more in a shape of wrestler than a footballer

Its Abahoni we are talking about
Now the big question is does size really matter in soccer? Other than few exceptions its more of your skill and fitness which can overcome opponents of heavier physique.

when you are Maradona or SRT then size does not matter. Otherwise Matarazzi or Hayden would win. In case of today's match match we were technically better but physically so weak they won every 50/50 and physical tussle
