BCB appoints Sunil Joshi as National Spin Bowling Coach

Former Indian SLA is now our Spin Bowling coach. He is already working with the boys as we speak.

Welcome to Bangladesh. Coach them up and make them a winner.

Why the * would you hire Sunil Joshi ? He was a rubbish bowler and even our Aminuls used to give him a beating!

In case you haven't noticed, it's always the crap players that make the best coaches. They have to have a complete understanding of the game to make up for the lack of talent at the pro level.

Head coach of 3 Ranji Trophy sides. Spin coach of Oman, spin consultant NCA. Level 3 qualification.

To me the Ranji trophy aspect is important, means he is head coach material, and such guys often bring in a lot more than technical knowledge.

Not sure-seems to have helped Hyderabad promoted. But apparently Kumble was the one who recommended Joshi to BD operations team, who asked him for a recommendation.

Well from the onset BCB were clear they wanted someone from the subcontinent. Options are from India, Pakistan, or Sri Lanka.

I cant think of a suitable candidate from Sri Lanka. Mushtaq is working with Pakistan, Saqlain with England-plus too expensive.

Makes sense targeting someone for India-they are very good in producing quality spinners. And Indian coaches imo are doing very well. Better than rest of subcontinent anyway. Akram Khan apparently asked Kumble-probably about a potential candidate from India itself.

The two other options in India are Sriram, Raju. Not sure why the latter was never taken into consideration despite his coaching clinic. Sriram is working with Australian spinners, no reason for him to come. Paul Adams would have been a joke. I think we ve got the most qualified of all the candidates interested in this job.

I think people havent taken lesson from the 'legendary', 'godly', 'omnipotent', 'genius' and what not Walsh. Like gimme a break please.

Its usually the bad or not-so-famous players that make good coach. Cuz they have to overhaul their full understanding of the game and learn from their mistakes. Only one who has faced failures can tell others exactly where and how not to fail.

So lets be optimistic and hope he does a good job.

Joshi might not have a great international career but he is was a legend in Ranji circuit. Toiled in the field for years and years playing for Karnataka. Being an Indian he will be able to gel with BD players very well too. I think its a great addition and he wont be as demanding as Walsh as a coach. Superstar cricketers turned into coaches (like Walsh/Greg Chapel etc) always comes with a baggage and think coaching as a favour. All the big coaches around the world were mediocre cricketers.

How good a player was Haturi? Is his coaching par with his playing credentials?

I don't understand why we keep hiring pile of craps one after another. First, there was Wash and now there's Juicy. BCB has the money but they are just tight.

I love shingara, but unfortunately here in North America everything is somosa. kaliga shingara was so yummy, can't forget those days!
