second round

Johmari Logtenberg's continued failure is sad to see. Hope she bounces back and shows 'em what she's made of!

The usual suspects are in the top 4; England, India, Australia and New Zealand. South Africa might bump off NZ though. How poetic it would be if Australia and India made it to the finals! Although it's not likely as England are looking good.

South Africa, Sri Lanka and West Indian Women's cricket teams are not the force in women cricket that their mens' cricket teams are.

India and Australia are virtually through to the semifinals.

In the March 26 match, India got SAF allout for 80 and won with 4 wickets and 24 overs to spare. Yesterday, India dismissed England for 139 and won by 7 wickets.

5th round

Once again, disappointed by Logtenberg's performance (been following her pretty closely for a month or so now )...however, i shouldn't be blaming her since SA's failure was more of a team effort

but she also got thrashed badly in the two overs that she bowled. is she overrated, or is it that she's just too young, like Ashraful?

India lost to New Zealand by 16 runs. Not unexpected, as NZ is No.2 and India No.3 in the world.

Default Round 6

New Zealand beat England by 5 wickets. The semifinal will probably be Australia v England and India v New Zealand.

Sri Lanka defeated South Africa by 32 runs. SL made 158 and SAF was allout for 126. ATMR's girl top scored with 39. For SL, the first three batters scored 0s. Only two reached double figures.

In the matches in progress, WI was allout for 135 v India. Ireland made 66/8 in 50 overs (!!) against Australia.

Well, to her credit she did make 39 off 57 balls against SL in round 6. But SA got defeated anyhow; pretty poor performance by SA team overall.

So if the semis will be Australia v England and India v New Zealand, then can we expect the finals to be Au vs Ind, with Au winning the Cup? :embaressed:

where is Bangladesh?? This sucks!! I want fab in that team.

Bangla women are good for nothing. They only know how to gossip and talk about shutki bhotta.

Bangla girl 1: O apu torkarite jolpai dile.. jaa moja hoi na..

Bangla girl 2: na na apa. ki bolen.. apni tetul diye kokhono redhechen - amar hobu jamaier best friend onek like kore.

Bangla girl 1: oh apu shunchen shunchen, kalke rickshaw te ki dekhlam.. .....

it continues forever!!

Thanks for the vote of confidence. I trust we can rely on YOU to be our star opening batswoman?

PS: Regarding the "shutki bhotta" dialogue - it seems that you have been in the company of too many Sylheti fooris (or whatever it is they call their women).

Good for us there was no play in the last round matches.

India's last round match was against Australia which we would have probably lost. India lost some points when our first game against Ireland was washed out and England could have pushed India to fourth place with a big win in the last round (even though India had beaten England earlier).

Some 40% chance of qualifying for the final now.

According to the article below, Cathryn Fitzpatrick - the fastest woman - bowls at a 'raw pace' of 74 mph

I feel sorry for SA. In the 2003 mens owrld cup SA missed super six because of one run. This year the woman missed the semi finals (i think) because of one run. Also they will have to qualify for the next one.

Default Australia in the final

Tuesday, April 05, 2005 - 10:23 AM

Australia has defeated England by five wickets with three overs to spare at Potchefstroom today to enter Sunday's Women's Cricket World Cup final.

Chasing a target of 159, the Australians achieved a tightly-fought victory when Cathryn Fitzpatrick hit Kathryn Brunt to the boundary at the end of the 47th over. Belinda Clark, making her 28th World Cup appearance, equalling Sharon Tredrea's Australian record, top scored with 62, while Lisa Sthalekar made 29. For England, only Isa Guha and Clare Connor captured a wicket apiece. Thirty-nine year-old Clare Taylor battled injury to take 0/31 from her ten overs. It remains to be seen whether this was the last game for England in Taylor's long and distinguished career.

Australia now enter their third consecutive Women's World Cup final on Sunday at Supersport Park, Centurion. They will play the winner of Thursday's match at Sedgars Park, Potchefstroom, between India and New Zealand.

Brief scores: England 158 all out in 48.4 overs (C Connor 35, A Brindle 32, CE Taylor 29; C Fitzpatrick 3-27, K Rolton 2-28, S Nitschke 2-22) lost to Australia 159/5 in 47 overs (B Clark 62, L Sthalekar 29) by five wickets. (Scores)

The final is guaranteed to be a repeat of the last World cup final- if India wins, it will be a repeat of men's final. If New Zealand wins, it will be a repeat of Women's final .
