There are few reasons behind it

1/ There were internal rivalries between players from opposing clubs. Abahani players never got along with Mohammedan players.

2/ Clubs used to influence the player selection, (this is happening to this day). National team Coach/managers were dominated by the club officials to pick their players or loose their job.

3/ Corruption played a major role, money granted by FIFA for buying balls/develop pitches or bring coaches etc were stolen regularly from the BFF coffers.

4/ We hardly had proper trainer/physio with the team.
Then you must not be young enough to remember Bangladesh in the 90s used to beat Pakistan by big margins! And if you read I never said we easily beat India.

I do not recall to be honest.

Here is what I found from Google search (Use the link below)
https://www.11v11.com/teams/pakistan...on/Bangladesh/

As I said, and I repeat, During the early 90's we had a genuinely good team that could atleast compete at the Asian level (Likes of Japan, South Korea etc), however due to lack of effort and mismanagement from our football federation, we just let our golden generation turn into a myth.

Those matches are not on that list but I can see why you came to that conclusion.

Our current ranking is 194.

We lost to Sri Lanka, who are currently ranked 200 in the World by FIFA, beat Bhutan (ranked 183) and Pakistan (ranked 201).

Beating Nepal would be a good step forward, as they are currently ranked 161st in the world. The real importance lies in beating Maldives (150th) and India (96th). India would be desperate to prevent a loss though, as this is their highest ever FIFA ranking, and they'll want to hold on to it for sure.

Sri Lanka also could potentially jump forward as they beat Bangladesh and tied against Maldives. They could also reach the knockout stage if India beats Maldives by a greater than 2 goal margin.

our world class gk shahid strikes again. What a joke. This guy shouldn't even be a professional player.

Apparently he is being chosen ahead of ashraful (who played superbly in asian games) because he plays for abahoni.

Horrible mistake, it should have been a routine save, he even gripped the ball and then it slipped out of his hands. Cringe. Why the hell is he our main GK? He has a horrible track record of stopping routine long shots.

Biplo Ahmed and Jamal Bhuyan are playing fantastic football. Their dribbling skills are amazing and really stands out, taking the ball past the Nepalese defence with ease. Topu Barman is phenomenal at bringing the ball forward quickly as a RWB.

We have only one problem- the same problem for half a decade- no one can f**cking finish.

EDIT: The referee sucks, 2 bad calls against us when we were on the attack.

Our attack is too predictable. Nepalese Defenders are marking our players well. When we counter attack, the player sprints forward but always back passes in the end giving Nepal enough time to regroup. It's as if everyone lacks the confidence to take on the GK 1-on-1.

Shufil is usless.

Yes. Knocked out of SAFF championship in our own home ground at Group Stage, losing 2-0 to Nepal.

Maybe we'll stop using coaches as a scapegoat and actually sack Kazi Salahuddin, under his management football in Bangladesh keeps scraping the absolute bottom of the barrel to reach new lows.

We were winless for 3 f**king years and reached our lowest ever FIFA ranking (198).

How can you lose to Nepal at home? What a shame!

We like to boast about our economy. Middle income country etc. Is Nepal Middle or Low income. In Asia improvement in soccer is directly related to financial standard of the country. Definitely this loss is the most pathetic.

But those of us who know the state of Bd soccer knew this was coming. This has been Bd football/soccer over the last 5 years. A few surprises tapered off with the some truly embarrassing defeats bringing us back down to our near 200th rank. 1 step forward, 2 steps back.

The Bangladesh under 17 women football squad is the most talented group of any sport in the country.

Our girls have just won first ever SAFF u-18 tourney by beating nepal. Just to put things into perspective, most of the player of this team have also just participated recently concluded Asian Championship qualifier for u-15 (or 16 i think). We ended up as group champion in the first round.

^ I am going to say no. Palestine is a very strong team relative to us. And they are playing well this tournament. They beat Tajikistan, Tajikstan beat Phillipines in the other semi, and Phillipines beat us.

We are almost certainly going to lose. I am still amazed how we were able to beat Qatar in the recent Asian games. You can make a case for it being our best victory in the last 10 years in Bd football.
