Bangladesh to leave on May 6

Bangladesh cricket team will depart for their maiden West Indies tour on May 6 and reach St. Lucia, the venue of the first Test, on May 8. The first Test is scheduled to start on May 12.

The proposed Bermuda tour of Bangladesh cricket team was postponed because of the short time available to get prepared for the Asia Cup. Instead, the team will go to Sri Lanka on July 1, two weeks ahead of schedule, to play as many practice matches as possible.

A cricket board press release also revealed that the board will set up a gymnasium for the cricketers while the cricket committee has asked the approval of the board for the international medical insurance for the contracted players as well as players selected for a tour.

The cricket committee also recommended that three new venues, Bogra, Khulna and Chittagong divisional stadium, be prepared to meet the requirements of being considered as Test and ODI venues.

The cricket committee also recommended that a cricket operations manager be appointed. The performance rating of each contracted player has taken affect from April 1 while the committee also recommended that the number of contracted players be increased.

Default Master plan for Mirpur stadium complete

The Master plan for renovating the Mirpur Sher-e-Bangla Stadium into a full-fledged cricket stadium is complete. Bangladesh Cricket Board is now waiting to chalk out the architectural design before starting full swing renovation work.

Cricket Australia, as per agreement between the two countries, made the master plan free of cost.

“Some international companies sought 40 thousand dollars for chalking out the master plan but Cricket Australia came ahead to do the job for us free of cost,” said Mahbub Anam, member of the Board’s advisory committee.

The master plan clearly shows where all the changes will be made and where the light posts will be situated. Graham Watson, a specialist from Cricket Australia, supervised all the work done.

“We have to do it with least possible destruction. We don’t want break a large part of the existing infrastructure,” said Anam.

“The stadium will not be modelled like any famous international ground as is being speculated,” clarified Anam.

“The construction work of the adjacent indoor stadium is going on and we will measure today exactly how many international practice pitches can be placed in the area. I think six or seven pitches can be laid,” added member secretary of the ground and facilities committee Rafiqul Islam.

Well functional and notional similarity with a cutting-edge international ground should not hurt. One may question aesthetical or formal similarity though. Personally i think a sight of grass bank would break concrete monotony. Anyway it's a good news that we're atleast going to have a proper cricket academy ( i gathered that is the main goal) which's something all other test playing countries already have.
