Arindam Das leads Bengal to six-wicket victory over Karnataka

Arindam Das struck an unbeaten 84 while Manoj Tiwary played a crucial 40-run knock to steer Bengal to a comfortable six-wicket win over Karnataka in the opening match of the CAB S K Acharya Memorial Trophy one-day tournament, here today.

Put into bat, Karnataka batsmen struggled on the seaming wicket of JU second campus ground in Salt Lake as they were bowled out for 181 in 43.5 overs with Bengal pacer Veer Pratap Singh taking two wickets for 29 run in his seven overs.

It was then left for the Bengal spin duo of Iresh Saxena and Saurasish Lahiri to run through the Karnataka line-up with three wickets each.

Bengal hardly had any difficulty with Das playing the sheet anchor role in his 113-ball 84 not out with seven boundaries but it was Tiwary who sizzled in the gloomy day with his quickfire 40 studded with one four and one six.

After Tiwary’s dismissal, wicketkeeper batsman Shreevats Goswami (33 not out from 47 balls) extended Das a fine support to see Bengal through with 9.3 overs to spare.

Brief Scores:

KSCA 181 in 43.5 overs (Shishir Bhavane 39; Iresh Saxena 3 for 29, Saurasish Lahiri 3 for 47) lost to CAB 185/4 in 40.3 overs (Arindam Das 84*, Manoj Tiwary 40, Shreevats Goswami 33*) by 6 wickets

Their only star player missing is Wriddhiman Saha, who will be Dhoni's replacement for upcoming Ind-SL ODI series. So, CAB really got a strong team up there.

^^Two more matches still to be played in this tournament, well ahead of start of the 2nd Test. Kopa and Hom should not count their chickens yet.

Nasir thought getting dropped from national team to team-A was embarrassing for a player like his caliber. Now what will be his reaction when he will be dropped from the team-A?

its a wake-up tournament for him...porecho tou morecho.

This tournament is useless so don't care who does what. Just look at the pitch. Never seen such a bad pitch

Hate to say this but Imrul is another Tushar Imran and Farhad Reza. Hero in the A team but zero in the national team. Imrul's not as bad as Reza or Tushar but he's proven he's not good enough. Still can't forget how horrendous his approach was in WI.

Only positive out of those two matches is that Anamul kept wicket for both matches (on subsequent days) and hopefully will be ready to take gloves from Mushfiq for the 2nd Test against Zimbabwe (if the management want to take that route), so Mushfiq can bat higher up the order.

Back to back day matches, perhaps the management did not want to risk those two pacers who still need to work on their endurance?

Kamrul looks hopeless in all the opportunities he is given so far. Why not pick Abu Jayed, who have better domestic stats to back him?

Also how is that Muktar Ali spent both days on bench? I thought he was in consideration for national team call up, now he is not good enough even for A-team XI?!

Unfortunately BCB will never get it. Our A team consistently losing against 2nd string state sides in India and county sides against England is not a fluke. Jus goes to show we lack the quality to be up amongst the big boys and will continue to do so if changes aren't made in domestics.
