Default Dhaka most stressful city in Asia

Bangladesh’s capital Dhaka tops the list of the most stressed cities in Asia

http://www.thedailystar.net/world/as...aleads-1468945

Those of you who live in Dhaka, is this true? what are the key factors behind Dhaka being the most stressed city in Asia? Income? Politics? Education?

Please do share.

All major south asian cities are stressful I guess, our cities by and large are unplanned and have to bear our massive population, I will in fact give them credit that they are up and running despite this. I have never been to Dhaka but what I keep hearing from my BD friends is that transportation is a mess there, Dhaka probably needs another city nearby that can share some of its load.

I remember in 2003/4 went to BD with family + Aunt's family. There was this political gathering in Dhaka. To get to the hotel, it took more than 3 hours. The driver said, it usually takes 30 minute. That was a tough experience for the whole family. I guess this doesn't happen to often.

I think being a stressful city depends on many other factors like stated in OP. Would be nice for people that actually live or lived in Dhaka to share their thoughts..

How do you quantify something like "stress"?

If you actually look at the study, it was funded by a company that aims to reduce stress. And these are their metrics:

"major stress-inducing factors, including unemployment, debt per capita, traffic, public transport, security, pollution and density. We also considered elements such as lack of sunshine hours, which has been linked to poor mental health."

So unemployment counts as much as sunshine hours? Sounds like a BS study with BS metrics, with the only goal is to promote the company.

Good luck finding a nice house to stay in, house prices in Australia are cancer.

For 1 Million AUD your lucky if you can get a shack in the outskirts of the city.

Damn Chinese investors using their communist money to buy all the property, mass inflating the prices.

Nah, too busy living their phony western lifestyle acting like their rich and obnoxiously taking photos of their food to showcase to simpletons the lavish lifestyle they have.

Dhaka for me seems like a stressful place to live in I do agree. But tbh this study looks quite flawed as some of it is just arbitrary.

How do you measure accurately things like: mental health and physical health ?

Also the weighting for the scores are not provided too.

I mean in the top ten, no places like Palestine, Kabul (assuming they are apart of Asia) etc?? And just one Pakistan city makes it to the top ten .

C'mon guys 4 Indian cities are in the list, I should be the one whining

I am surprised Peshawar, Kabul, Quetta, Baghdad etc are less stressful than our cities.

Bangladesh Cricket Team.

Another reason for Dhaka being a stressful city.

Especially as most of our games are played in Dhaka.

We don't have a major public transportation system. Plus the dignitaries use their flag power to block already conjested roads. THen there is a trainline that goes through heart of the city. This needs to be moved outside the city. Use the space for underground electric train with 2 stops and as a new road on the ground.

Unemployment/Frustration: Be honest. This will solve everything. Be it at the bazar, or paying taxes, or any other social interaction.

I just find it hilarious that Raqqa is nowhere on that list. You think ISIS controlling your city would be stressful? Nah, not according to these geniuses. Plenty of sunshine and greenery must make up for the public show of beheadings

Like all other studies, let's just take a dump on the south Asian cities and pretend we came up with something new. Utter nonsense.

Do not forget the special privilege that military gets. They occupy massive amount of space inside Dhaka city where civilians are not permitted to enter. Worse they also act as an impediment to city planning. Also why have a military use only airport in the heart of Dhaka city. Turn that into a park.

Lack of Legal Parking space is stressful for any driver along with the lack of respect for any traffic laws.

Most of Dhaka is like organised chaos. Bangladesh needs a new capital. stop wasting huge funds on flyovers DhAKA traffic cannot be changed its gone to deep and late, better build this promised modern town called purbachal where BD cricket team was supposed to have a 70k capacity stadium but not a single brick been laid yet and it's almost 3years

Anyway, get this modern city up and running, plan things well, roads and transports are crucial to keep going, keeping the city running well in all aspects. So make wide roads, city center with nice public squares, good pavements etc. Not asking much, its norm for any capital to have. THEN once completed call it New Dhaka. Move all gov offices there, build the promised cricket stadium, nice football ground, cricket institutions, nice theme park, activities for people to do but the city centre has to be done well...

70 Thousand stadium is a bad idea. A state of the art 70 thousand stadium would cost atleast .5 billion dollars. Such money would be well spent in other endeavors for a country like Bangladesh. We need an airport outside Dhaka before we need a stadium outside Dhaka . Stadium generates very little revenue for the govt.

60-80million be enough. Even if it to be sstate of art, 100-120million be sufficient enough to make but who would build an state of art for desi fans who make things dirty easily. It should just have capacity of 70k. It’s going to be a desi stadium not like those european football stadiums with 5star hotels and restaurants inside, 5star facilities etc. Most of the stands will be like people getting through the gates, up the stairs and into the seats, there will be toilets, some snack sellers going about, but not 5star restaurants and food places to but and eat, unless its the vip, grand main stands.

Englands football stadium Wembley cost £798 million. Which is an modern 5star state of art stadium.

Bangladesh needs a big cricket stadium as the current ones have too small capacity. A 70k capacity would be brilliant, more chances for people to see. Then more cricket fans don’t have to be disappointed.
