Chicago just one game away from a major ego adjustment, and the Habs from yet another disappointment. California Uber Alles!

Gotta say this, the New York Rangers of 2013-2014 are looking more and more like a team of destiny MashAllah. A 4-1 deficit being eroded with a superb demonstration of poise and urgency. 4-3 Habs who may get closed out tonight.

And there it is! 4-4 as McDonagh and Kreider combine to deliver fear itself into the heart of the Habs Nation.

The Habs prevent the slide and come back strong to win a great game of hockey. The Crowd became a major factor. The Rangers better not let this get to game 7.

Man, what a treat it has been to be a hockey fan the last two nights! First, the Kings overcome a 1-3 deficit to take the lead 4-3. And then the Blackhawks come back to tie it in the third before winning it in double overtime to fight another day. Kane and Carter just owned it tonight. Great players on great teams playing their best hockey. One for the ages.

Man, I agree. What a game ! The OT action was something to behold. Watching the cream of the Western teams makes me realize how far behind the Pens are as a TEAM.

The more I see Anze ( don't see him enough ) the more I think that this guy could be the best overall hockey player in NHL. He does everything well. A special talent.

Kopitar's up there with Toews and Bergeron. All three are playing at the Datsyuk 2004-8, Zetterberg/Crosby 2008, and Malkin/Zetterberg 2009 level. Brad Richards, Jeff Carter, Evegni Malkin, Marian Hossa, Patrick Kane, or Ryan Getzlaf's not too far behind. That said, I think both Datsyuk and Zetterberg at 100%, or a Crosby carrying his form over to the playoffs can still give all 9 a good run for that title.

And no some real Babcock news from Mike Dery's interview with Kenny Holland on Detroit's 105.1 FM.

Quote:
Holland simply stated that Babcock had both scouted Mantha in Quebec and that the coach went back to Saskatchewan to kick off his summer vacation, so the pair hadn't been in the same area for a while. Holland said that he'd speak with Babcock during the team's organizational meetings from June 2nd to June 4th at the Joe, that he'd have time with Babcock during the draft and free agency, and that he expects to talk contract extension turkey with Babcock at this time. Holland told Dery that he'd "have to be living under a rock" to not hear the rumors about Babcock going elsewhere, and Holland understands why Babcock's record and charisma make him an intriguing candidate for coaching jobs, but he feels that Babcock wants to remain in Detroit, and he believes that Babcock wants to get an extension deal hammered out, too. Cue the Tweets!

Heartfelt congratulations to the New York Rangers for becoming this year's Eastern Conference champions. Tremendous series win. They've out-thought and out-executed their opponents throughout this postseason, and exemplified team cohesion better than anyone in the east. Lundqvist, McDonagh, Kreider, Richards, MSL, D. Moore, and the others will give either LA or Chicago the fight of their lives in the SCF.

LA better close this one out in Cali. Going back to ChiTown for game 7 would mean the golf course.

Not the prettiest game of hockey despite multiple lead changes and a powerful third period rally. Crawford stole this one in the final period, especially with a couple of minutes to go. Sadly for LA, their inability to contain Kane and close this out at home may cost them the series, the Western Conference championship, and a trip to the SCF. The Blackhawks overcame a 1-3 deficit and forced a game 7 against us last year before going on to win the Cup, and may do exactly the same this year. Doesn't look good for LA anymore. The golf course beckons ...

Thomas Vanek is the man who can fill the void left behind by Holmstrom. Not only does is he a great deflection artist with strong net presence, he's also strong on the puck. Add his great hands and speed into all that and you have exactly what we need. The Habs must prioritize signing PKS for a long term deal ranging from 8 to 10 million per and won't be able to afford Vanek. He's 30 and we can afford to sign him for a 5 to 7 year deal for the money he's worth, close to what the Islanders offered him, after trading Franzen. Getting rid of Quincey, Bert, Weiss, Samuelsson, Cleary, Kindl and other bad investments would also help. Kenny would redeem himself by doing this. Legwand will not be signed.

Our skilled young guys with speed, toughness, and genuine scoring ability are expected to be better next year as Anthony Mantha is likely to get fast tracked. So we're likely see Zetterberg, Datsyuk, Nyquist and Tatar scoring 30 or close to 30 each as Pulkkinen and Mantha are mentored into NHL players. Vanek would be invaluable part of that formidable offense with outstanding 2-way ability as guys like Helm, Abdel Kader, Sheahan and Glendening bring their speed, toughness and clutch scoring ability in the third and fourth lines. Glendening isn't a scorer yet but you never know. Defensively we should be all set with great prospects like Sproul, Marchenko, Almquist, Ouellet, and Backman pushing for regular NHL slots.

The Habs must decide on Price also, keeping in mind that they still haven't recovered from the loss of Patrick Roy in terms of winning the Cup. They seem to like Toks a lot. Fine young goalie but still has ways to go.

Food for thought.

Quote:
Former Nashville coach Barry Trotz might want to call Scotty Bowman and ask how the greatest coach of them all, can change the spots on a scoring leopard.

In the early 90s, Bowman went about convincing his Detroit captain Steve Yzerman to park his run of 100-point seasons to become what we used to call a “two-way player” and now we refer to as playing “a 200-foot game.” Stevie Y had been around for about 10 years, had one 155-point season, but for all his points, he hadn’t won any team prize. Yzerman, aching to win, willingly changed gears and the Red Wings eventually won three Stanley Cups with the Hall of Famer Yzerman going from six years in a row of 100-plus point seasons to 69 and 74- point years when they won the Cup in ’97 and ’98. He became the ultimate two-way/leader, winning the Selke trophy in 2000. One of the game’s all-time greats.

Trotz has the same task with Alex Ovechkin in Washington. Everybody knows he’s the elephant in the room there. Two Hart trophies, four 50-goal seasons, one of 65. No Cups, nary a playoff game past the second round since he was drafted first in 2004. Ovie isn’t selfish. He’s stubborn. He longs to carry the Cup around the ice just like his Russian countrymen Evgeni Malkin in Pittsburgh and Pavel Datsyuk in Detroit.

Congrats to the Kings for winning their second Western Conference Championship in the last three years. What a team! What a way to win game 7 on the road in a series that oughtta be remembered for its drama and high quality hockey!

Let's hope the SCF would be just as intense. California Uber Alles, baby!

What a great series it was between two great Western teams. So much resiliency by both. Too bad one had to lose. There were no clear cut better team in that series. On to the finals. Best of luck to Cricman and his team.

Really looking forward to tonight's game 1. Can the Kings leverage home ice, solve Lundqvist, and equal the Blackhawks as the best team of the decade so far? Can the Rangers neutralize Quick, Doughty, Kopitar, Carter and Gaborik to bring it home after two decades? May the best team win it all.

The Los Angeles Kings overcome a 0-2 deficit to win 3-2 in OT. Justin Williams is a playoff asset. Lundqvist made 40 saves to keep the Rangers in the game but they couldn't generate much offensively at all. Nash is completely useless and a major financial liability. Just because you have money to burn doesn't mean you should and then lose games. I hope this year's success gets the Rangers out of that poachers mentality for good and develop players from within. Simply too much money wasted over the past two decades on big name players with no Cup to show for it. Being the Real Madrid, Chelsea or Man City of hockey with no silverware is just stupid. What works for the Yankees will never work for Rangers.

LA leads the SCF series 1-0 after a strong performance. Unless the Rangers manage to generate some offense, this may be a short series.

Not Worried but disappointed

Staples Center Ice seems to worse as the game progresses, it looked like the Rangers skates were stuck on the Ice. Girardi has to clear that puck though, same thing with Stepan on the 1st goal. It wasn't like the Kings Forecheck caused those Turnovers. Thats Hockey

Checkout this Picture from Bryant Park Yesterday, with people watching Game 1

I'd say neither team played their best in game 1. Ice is always an issue during this time of the year, especially in warmer areas of the country. Nothing new at all. the problem seems to be worse in non-hockey specific arenas.

I passed through the 42 and Bryant Park stop on my way from home from Grand Central the other day. Did not notice any Rangers fanatics. Did see a ton last week at Penn on my way to Philly tho.

Yeah the city caught hockey fever all of a sudden. Everywhere I go people are talking about Rangers and Game 1. I have lived in NY for a while now but have rarely seen such interest in Hockey.

Everyone loves a winner. There has always been a core group of hockey fans in any American city where the sport is behind football, basketball and baseball but when your team starts winning, millions come out of the woodwork. Some of these core groups are fairly large in Original Six and other cities with Cup contending teams (Chicago, Boston, NYC, Pittsburgh, Philly, Denver, LA, San Jose) but hockey's not the top dog. The *ONLY* exceptions being the states of Michigan (Detroit), Minnesota (St. Paul), the Dakotas, and Alaska -- places with Canada-level hockey popularity and culture regardless of who you are. Only places in the USA where 20,000+ people pack the arena for High School hockey games.

Masses of people usually develop a passion for a sport they love to play, or did in their youth. Hockey is the most expensive sport you can play at any level. Rink-time rental, coaching, the gear, the crazy driving and hotel rooms. Not easy for most American families but many still make the sacrifice for this great game with an unnatural relationship to gravity and velocity they so passionately love. Hockey moms and dads are some of the best people you'll ever meet because of this quality they must have. My beautiful, young, single mom worked full time at the USIS but made simply unbelievable sacrifices of money and time to support her son's whimsy. She's the only thing about my life I won't even think about changing a bit had GOD given me the chance to skip back and do things all over again.

That was clearly goalie interference and the goal should've been disallowed. But oh well, **it happens including absolutely horrendous calls that impact the final outcome of a game and the series. That said, kudos to the Kings for hanging-in there with their relentless attack in the third period. Overcoming a 2-goal deficit *THREE* times to win it in 2OT is championship-worthy character. Both Lundqvist and Quick made some amazing saves. The Rangers must hold at the MSG. I don't see the Kings blowing a possible 3-1 deficit to lose the Cup if the Rangers fail to win both at home. Only *WE* can do that kind of thing.

So the Pens have a new GM who promptly fires Disco as expected. Not surprised and not a class move to leave the man hanging like that. Anyway, I won't be surprised to see Paul Maurice as the new coach in Pittsburgh. Solid strategist who demands total 2-way commitment from all of his players for all 60 minutes. He's like Bowman that way.

Yes I agree. It was not a classy move. Everyone knew he would be gone. It was a bad move when they didn't fire him three weeks ago, and its still a bad move today. He stinks as a coach but he is a great guy and he deserved better. There were a lot of internal issues that is coming into light now slowly through the media. For example : Disco favorite Adams who is the worst NHL player in every thing he does played every game. Adams used to snitch on players to Disco and coaching staff. We always wondered why is this always playing when he couldn't even complete a simple pass. Anyway, he should have been gone in 2012. Ray shero stuck his neck out for him and he is also gone. Lets see what Rutherford can do. He is stop gap until Jason Boterill is ready to take over in a few years. He will be the new GM.

Maurice signed an extension with Jets. So, he is out of running.
