Toronto T20's postponed
I want our 4 day warm up back
Quote:

By our correspondent
KARACHI: The West Indies are yet to confirm their participation in next months four-nation twenty20 tournament in Toronto, forcing the organisers to think about moving the event to October.
Sources in the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) told The News on Sunday that the events organisers are now considering back-up plans as the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) is yet to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the T20 quadrangular planned for August 14-17.
Pakistan, Bangladesh and hosts Canada the other three competing teams have already signed the MoUs for the Toronto twenty20 competition that is aimed at reviving international cricket in Canada.
But in spite of repeated attempts, the events organisers have been unable to sign an MoU with the West Indians.
According to one official, WICB has verbally agreed to send its team for the four-nation contest but he pointed out that unless a contract is signed, it would be risky for the promoters to go ahead with plans of hosting the event in mid-August.
The official said that if a deal is not signed with the West Indians within the next couple of days, then the organisers will have to look for a new four-day slot for the tournament. We dont have much time left in the start of the tournament which is why a quick decision is needed about the dates, said the official. If there is no luck then we will have to take the event to October when all the four teams will be free of any international commitments.
A source added that if the West Indians are still reluctant in signing the MoU even if the event is moved to October then the organisers will replace them with some other team.
The Toronto quadrangular is to serve as a warm-up event for Pakistan ahead of Septembers Champions Trophy to be held on home soil. Pakistan were to announce their 15-man squad for the tournament next week following a series of practice games in Lahore.

How can you blame WI? If anyone must take the blame it must be the Pakis and their dodgy organisers. No official media release or details of broadcasting? This is International cricket. We must stop blindly following the Pakis and the Indians.

I wouldn't mind if the tournament got postponed, or even canceled. No info on tickets or broadcasts and a third-class venue - this isn't international cricket, at least not in the 21st century.
Besides, it isn't going to help us prepare for Australia or South Africa or New Zealand or the other teams that are in the pipeline to rid us of whatever pride we have left.

i kinda agree with asif bhai here! i would like to see the tigers in action in canada and hopefully watch them kick some butt but in reality it's too jam-packed of a tour alongside the much more important australia, NZ and SAF, SL home and away tours! and i know if we do well in the canada T20s it will help our rating in T20s only, not much for the big picture though, i mean, in test and ODIs!

BCB should create emergency teams like BCB A and BCB B incase the tournament gets canceled and arrange games in the rain! They will get good soccer practices prior to Aussie tour.

If it really gets shifted in Oct, it's in coma.
It may be held next year. We have a lots of serious encounters this winter.

Canada Cup Four Nation 20/20 2008
Canada quadrangular deferred
Cricinfo staff
July 28, 2008
The Canada Cup Four Nation Twenty20 tournament, which was scheduled to be held in Toronto in August 2008, has been deferred. The Bangladesh Cricket Board, in a release on Monday, said the tournament has been adjourned till October 2008.
Pakistan, Bangladesh, West Indies and Canada were supposed to participate in the tournament, which was organised by the PCB to fill up its calendar after the postponement of their home series against Australia. The tournament had initially faced problems with the backing out of the primary sponsors, but the board managed to bring in a Pakistan-based business house to finance the event.
The dates for the competition, August 14-17, were announced on July 18 but a Cricket Canada (CC) spokesperson had told Cricinfo that they had not yet received a signed copy of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) from the sponsors. "We have finalised an MOU with the event sponsors, and the CC is in a position to be able to sign that document," said the spokesperson. "As of mid-day July 18 (Toronto time) the CC has not yet received a signed copy of the MOU from the event sponsors. We do understand, however, that the sponsors are in active discussions with the participating countries."

Well, for the money we are going to get for a four-day fanfare, i doubt BCB could resist the temptation. $350K is a lot of money, esp when BCB just announced a budget of huge deficit.
With the tournament being held just next door, WI would surely sign the MoU and even if its in Sept/Oct, i think it'd go ahead even if a little delayed.

Not the best time to play cricket. The boys will be mentally and physically tired. If and A team goes its okay but otherwise no point of risking burn out especially as the boys are not the fittest, you know eating curry all the time and that and not as much exercise as Australia etc.
