indeed i am but my coke tasting days are over! the likes of tesco cola, sainsbury's cola, virgin cola and all the rest lack the sugar content of classical coke to my taste buds. recently, i started drinking dr pepper which has a slightly more peppered taste

as for diet cola, i always wonder, what is the point? why not just drink water?

An honest confession - for quite a many days when i heard the song Dayal Baba, i used to think "Kola Khaba" meant "Eating Cola".

In my own corrupted understanding, i used to think "Dayal Baba Kola Khaba" meant "Our Dayal Baba drinks Cola" and it did sound funny considering i have seen so many saints back home who no longer quench their thirst with water or "shorbat".

I recall that in good old days, India had Campa Cola and Thumbs Up. And both fared much better in terms of taste. Personal preference, you can say.

Actually, that's not all.

For quite sometime, i thought "Kola Bagaan Chash Koira Koshto Koira Khao Baba Re" meant "Someone else works hard but someone else runs away with the booty". Was quite apt for the sub-continent politicians and even in general. That understanding (and quite a lot of them) stayed until Baundule gave the literal translation.

The company that used to make Thumbs up (Parle Products, also the maker of Parle-G, my favourite biscuit) trembled and fell on their knees the moment Pepsi announced it's launch in India. The sold-off the plants for 40% shares + some incentives/posts of chairman etc etc (can't recall much).

After that, Pepsi, like any true multinational has slowly and progressively gone about it's task of killing Thumbs-up, GoldSpot, Limca, Mangola etc, and launched it's counter-offerings. Some of them (Limca, Thumbs) have stayed afloat with the generation that grew in their taste and still have a bit of Market.

Times have changed. I was happy if my parents gave me 50 paise for a Vada-Pav. My youngest sister throws off any denomination less than Rs. 100/- saying "What can i get with that much".. LOL.

I don't mind any cola when I'm thirsty. Only tried Mecca cola once, not bad but it isn't widely available.

I liked Virgin cola in BD. I'm suprised it isn't that popular in the UK considering it's a UK franchise. When it was launched in BD it was a great alternative to coke, especially coz the cans were more compact, better priced, and of course tasted great. A Virgin cola van used to come by every day when we played cricket in the streets.
