Watching a very exciting match between Murray and Lee in the 3rd round.

Murray is fighting hard to keep himself alive.

Lee leading 6-3, 6-3, 2-6, 2-4

Not sure what's aesthetic about stocky/wirey, muscly women bashing the ball back and forth.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. If it wasn't, only frail, bimbo supermodels would have children. Perhaps mankind would be more beautiful, but mice will rule the world.

Having said that, I still haven't been able understand the fascination of watching burley, muscular men bulging forth in tights, unable to keep their hands, feet and other body parts off one another ... all in the name of sports entertainment.

I don't think the female tennis players are particularly savant. And they usually have higher amount of testosterone than the average female. Gross generalizations though.

Not particularly savant eh? Think of all that knowledge about rackets, lines to be and not to be crossed, and of course yellow-green and hairy balls ... depends on the kind of tennis we're talking about.

Great match between Blake and Haas. Blake had 3 match points but Haas held his serve. Then in 5th set tie breaker won the match.

Federer lost first set 3-6, then won second set 6-4.

Garantee then can steal a game or two against Federer, Nadal or Roddick. Who knows a set may be?

I think even metaphors like this will go way over their head. Don't count on it.

Why? Roddick is an inferior talent compared to Federer. He has lost 9 matches in a row now to Federer. Apart from injuries or freak accidents, I can't see Federer losing this one. Federer is at a completely different level.

I don't think there's any hope. If you have been following Roddick's tennis closely for the past few years, you should know by now it's the wrong time to be a Roddick supporter. You may want to consider Nadal if you want your guy to win against Federer.

I think it's more likely that Federer will treat this as a high-profile practice match and will come out with guns blazing like he did in Australian Open 2007. Do you know what happened that time?

Quote:
MELBOURNE -- When the reinvigorated Andy Roddick stepped on court Thursday to face his longtime tormentor Roger Federer, the consensus at the Australian Open was that spectators were in for a special evening.

That turned out to be true, but not in the way that Roddick, the 15,000 fans in Rod Laver Arena or even Federer himself would have imagined.
Instead of an extended duel between the world’s top player and one of his principal rivals, this hotly anticipated semifinal turned into an 83-minute ode to the brilliance of Federer and only Federer.

By the end of the second set, it felt less like a match and much more like a demonstration, as the Swiss continued to break Roddick’s huge serve at will and find new and exciting ways to pass the American as he pushed forward, with rapidly diminishing conviction, to the net. The final line: 6-4, 6-0, 6-2.

...

"There is nothing you can really do against someone like that; you just have to shake his hand and say, ’Too good,’" said Australian great Rod Laver, who was in attendance in the arena that bears his name and congratulated Federer in the locker room afterward.

Well I liked Roddick from the very beginning. He had potential but never fulfilled it. He won this before. He knows what it takes. Its not that he never beat Federer. There is always hope.

As for Nadal, he is out already.

Then you might not like the following news report:

Quote:
Roddick Refuses to Get Out of Bed for Federer Clash

American tennis star Andy Roddick has refused to get out of bed for
his US Open quarter final clash with world number one Roger Federer,
preferring to 'lie in, order pizza and watch some classic episodes of
'The Beverly Hillbillies'', in a white flag move unprecedented in the
world of sport.

Roddick's mother has tried everything to move the lazy lump but admits
that 'it's just like his high-school days all over again':

"I poured a bucket of water on him but he wouldn't shift and to be
honest I ended up feeling sorry for the poor lad and just decided to
leave him there clutching his Cookie Monster teddy bear. I'm his
mother, I don't want to see him suffer and if he plays Federer, that's
exactly what will happen."

Roddick, inexplicably a former world number one himself, has made
plans not to grant the Swiss a walkover, but has instead opted to hire
a lookalike to take his place in the draw to 'please the American
crowds':

"I think a lot of people will be looking forward to the match, so I
don't want to disappoint my fans, but there's no way I'm going out
there to be made to look like a ****ing stooge once again. That's why
I've hired a doppelganger to show up and take the inevitable beatdown
that Federer is going to dish out. As for me, I'm gonna stuff my face
with potato chips, drink some beer and maybe go off for a round of
golf later. See ya!"

Andy's coach Jimmy Connors, the ultimate competitor back in his day,
is said to be furious with his protege surrendering to defeat so
limply, but the American number one says that his mentor can 'shove it
up his ***':

"Look, Jimmy just wants to see Roger use me as a punchbag yet again.
He keeps telling me I can beat Federer just so I'll believe it and go
out there and get bitchslapped. The last time I got destroyed, Jimmy
was up in the stands laughing his *** off along with everyone else.
I'm not gonna be taken for a sucker yet again."

When I caught up with the lookalike assigned to be the whipping boy,
he told me about the many difficulties of being a Roddick double:

"For example, I was waking down the street the other day and people
started throwing tomatoes at me and calling me 'Federer's bitch'. Then
there are the people who challenge you to a tennis match because they
think they can beat you-a 90 year-old woman said she wanted a piece of
me on the court. She even said she'd tie one hand behind her back and
wear a blindfold. Thankfully, once I assured her that I wasn't
Roddick, she changed her tune and apologised."

But he is looking forward to the challenge and is confident of fooling
the world:

"I've never picked up a racket before and I'll struggle to win a point
against Federer-so I'm sure no one will notice the difference between
me and the real Roddick. It's going to be fun; I live for moments like
these."

The lookalike's only fear is playing well, he told me:

"I don't wanna start winning points out there and actually testing
Federer-that would only arouse suspicion".

Arnab,
Are you trying to show your age? How many years left to cross the "teen" line?

Good laugh (The author is really funny!!). As long as I keep smiling after today's game that all it matters. A whipping is what Federer will receive. He may be friends of Tiger Woods but he is no Tiger Woods.

May I? Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha!

Roddick loses his tenth in a row against Federer. This time the scoreline was 7-6, 7-6, 6-2. A straight sets affair. He put up some fight in the first two sets, but then simply was resigned to fate: another ***-whopping.

He fought really hard in the first 2 sets. Then in the third..............

Roddick remained defiant after the match, saying: "I don't think it was a piece of cake for him. I thought I made him play as well as he could play. "I'm not walking with my head down. I played my *** off out there. I played the right way. It helps, but that doesn't mean I can't be pissed off."
