I see as expected some are getting defensive...this is not an attack on Islam.

For me, Islam is an 'idea' an 'ethos'. I don't believe an idea or an ethos, an abstraction has responsibilities.

People have responsibilities, people do the deeds.

Which is why I asked why are muslims so violent and intolerant, and not Islam. Though some might interchange the two quite easily. I've chosen not to.

Science Rocks. We should definitely go back and prevent that. Agghh, if only we had a time machine, we could stop all the misery and violence committed by this cuckoo culture now.

I guess you would have been really happy to bury your daughter or daughter's alive, You should thank's islam and the pure muslim's from changing the jewish people into muslim's, otherwise the tradition of burying one's own daughter would continue even this day.

The Canadian sitcom Little Mosque on the Prairie is evidence of how bad our sense of humor is. We're not even good at making fun of ourselves when we try, lol. Well at least they try...

Who wastes time protesting a South Park episode? I mean come on, get a life!

5. Keep imaan intact and beard long
that was more of a shot at me than anyone else

Orthoodx Jews also happen to keep long beards...the Hindu saint also keep long beards, many devout Christians also keep long beards.

I will reinforce the first point through this ahadith:

Quote:
On the authority of Abu Hurayra(may Allah be satisfied with him) who said, "A man said to the Messenger of Allah(may the prayer and peace of Allah be upon him), "Counsel me." he said,

Do not get angry.

The man requested the Prophet several times, and the Prophet said,

Do not get angry.

It was reported by Al-Bukhari
so clearly, If this principle was applied correctly, we probably would live in a much safer world.

and secondly, every devout Muslim knows that true honor belongs with Allah, no matter how much some low life makes a cartoon or makes fun of Islaam or any of the Prophets(Peace and blessings be upon them) no matter how much ridicule is attempted at Islam and it's followers, it will not take away the honor Allah has granted to Islam, Prophet Mohammad(SalAllahu A'laihe wasallam) and his followers neither in this life or the afterlife.

there are many ways to respond to insults, one such method is produce a counter cartoon which speaks very positively about Islam and Prophet Mohammad(SalAllahu A'laihe wasallam). Anger resulted from the Love and devotion and attachment to Islam and Prophet Mohammad(SalAllahu A'laihe wasallam), when someone makes fun of you, or someone you love dearly(like a a family member or a very close friend or someone you admire dearly) the natural human reaction is to get angry. The problem is the means of expiating for that anger....

sorry Electrequiem if i offended you with my words, i was just giving an example...

Killing innocent people, Muslim or not is an ultimate crime against humanity, no one here deny that crime against Burmese Muslims. Topic on this thread is 'Intolerance among/within Muslims', if you have something to share on this topic, feel free to add, I mean stay with the topic.

mufi bhai...you alright bro? I know you're being sarcastic...and a bit of sarcasm never does any harm(well never is a big call) but you get what I'm saying. But you're getting wound up now, and for no good reason.

Yeah Mufi, cool down. This topic.and debate has been going on for decades and still going on. It'll be very hard to change one's opinion specially through here. It's good to argue with logic but we should stop when we run out of logic and emotion gets the better of us..

I am very good turbo bhai. I know what you are saying and you emphasized that your problem is not with the religion but with the people. And I agree with you too. We have this discussion at BC all the time and everyone gets all worked up.

I thought everyone was getting too serious and so tried to calm down the tension.

Solution - Be a good person. Change oneself first. A little smile and good gesture can go a long way. My father used to tell me, "Don't treat others the way they treat you". Because that's like doing trade like I am nice to you only if you are nice to me. Similar as saying I am giving you money for some service or item.

Don't be a businessman in dealing and socializing with others. If he/she is rude or mean to you, be nice to them. If he/she criticize you, you start praising them. Everyone has few good qualities so talk about that. Finally, I should judge myself than judging others. I am no one to judge others.

So I want to be a better Muslim who is more tolerant and totally non-violent. If I start doing that, Insha Allah others will follow.

My thread was basically borne out of frustration. Enough is enough, right?

But it seems the concept of let's agree to disagree has become completely alien to muslims.

Well said Mufi..I personally think that these things are beyond my control. No matter how hard I try, I can't stop violence nor I can make people like Islam. I can talk good about Islam but have no control over people's mind. Only Allah is capable of doing that.

So I put my focus on things that I have control over. Such as be a good person, not lie, don't harm others, try to read and understand Quran. And most importantly try to make sure that my family gets proper education so that they can distinguish between right and wrong. I can't change the world but I can change my family.

Allah won't make me responsible for what others do but will held me responsible for my deeds and my family's deeds. If we all can make sure our family get the proper education I am sure this world will be a much better place..

Isn't that the fate of every debate on religion, be it Muslims vs non-Muslims, believers vs atheists? These debates are futile - better to just be content with one's own opinions instead of trying to sway the other. Not that that was your intention behind this thread, but that's where religious debates typically end up.

Then again, talking about Bangladesh cricket like we do here is also futile, which makes this forum virtually redundant, which in turn makes a significant amount of our time - and our lives, by extension, meaningless. I'm so depressed now.

And many of my posts were out of frustration as well. While many of my posts made no sense, your question is important though. Its just painful where we try so hard here to build up a positive image. Through social media or college events we tried many ways. But at the of the day some lunatics does some stupid thing thousands of miles away and all the hard work is gone.

So as I said, I may not agree with few posts but will defend their right to say it. Let's start with ourselves by being tolerant and denouncing violent. Good habits are contagious too. Once we start adapting good moral values, it will spread as well.

Just yesterday I asked a friend of mine who is french and so nasurally nastik. :p
I asked him ..u non beliver ..he replied yes and confirmed...I said why.man...he said I tried to find reasons to be a believer but didnt get any.
And as I was about to argue he said, nevermind man, no matter how long we discuss it will end up with no result.
This is what we muslims lack, many of us dont know how to "leave it and move on"
Like in this thread we need to keep our opinion to ourselves (not before a little debate ;-) ) and move on.

Har har.

Did any of you see the Guardian article on the content of the anti Muhammad (PBUH) video?
http://apps.facebook.com/theguardian...-youtube-clips

I didn't know whether to laugh or cry at the seriousness of it all and the big words thrown around: Religious Hatred; Incitement; Free Speech; John Stuart Mill; blah blah blah.

I couldn't help but laugh at this part:
"The production values of the video as a whole are those of a backyard performance of Ben Hur. In the great battle scene, the Muslim hordes sweeping across the desert are represented by six camel riders.

"Whoever refuses to follow Islam have only two choices: pay extortion – or die!"

Are we that insecure that we take such BS seriously? Seriously enough to go kill someone; not anyone but the envoy of a country in their sovereign territory? We should be dismissing such rubbish offhand. It doesn't merit anyone's attention and - who would, in all seriousness, watch this and learn something from it?!

Ever here of creative paraphrasing? I'm quite aware of what Marx really said. Apparently my point went over your head.

Well Marx implied an opiod induced somnolence that prevents asking questions or causes people to accept their downtrodden status. Presumably (I never actually read his book, but who has?). In this case the opiod has had the opposite effect in that it has roused the masses to arson although the asking questions part remains intact.
