Default Tigers treated badly by Cricket South Africa...!!!

Shocking!
Daily Star, Johannesburg

'Any other top international team definitely would walk away from the series'. It was the way Bangladesh team operations manager Shafiqul Haq expressed his disappointment over the poor hospitality the Tigers so far have received from the Cricket South Africa (CSA) authorities.

It has started from the very beginning of the tour when the players and officials had to stay five hours in the team hotel lobby on November 2 before being checked-in after a fourteen hours journey. Things however got worse yesterday after the completion of the Twenty20 match at the Wanderers Stadium as Bangladesh captain Mohammad Ashraful and man-of-the-match Abdur Razzak had to sit on the dais for forty five minutes only to know that there was no post-match briefing.

The harsh treatment shocked everybody.

Though the players were not ready to focus too much on the negligence from CSA, Shafiqul already gave his report to the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) by describing all the mismanagement here.

“I already gave my report and accordingly our board made a strong statement to Cricket South Africa. It's amazing the way an international team has been treated here,” said Shafiqul.

“You know our players had to wait five hours at the hotel lobby. Can you imagine it for any other country? There is hardly any security for us,” said an angry Shafiqul.

After all these happenings it may be better not to say anything about the facilities available in the press box of the picturesque stadium in Johannesburg.

One can't be sure when things will actually happen if someone says: "Wait, you will get it within ten minutes."

too bad...what can i say razi...just too bad...i am really dissapointed at CSA and the government of SA for not providing any secuirities(!)....that just proves that SA govt./authority have inferior, unprofessional and typical South Africa maindset, period! (I am sorry that i said such harsh things to console my injured soul)
i don't expect much from you all SA, as time doesn't mean jack to you all...professionalism does not exist in your vocabularies....and oh yeah some of you might say the same about BD and that is true but WAKE UP SA, we expect better from you, still sleeping in the dark world of hate/skin color isuues, cluelessness, fog and corruption?
okay, i will try to calm myself down! at least we respect g smith and the SA guys genuinely and glad to play against them and improve our cricket!

This is totally unacceptable!

But again when I saw miss management by host nation, biased article, bad umpiring, mockery comments in some other forum and even by commentators, BCCI not willing to give us a tour, Symo/ Gibbs breaking the team rule night before....list goes on- I can relate all these to a single note- we better start winning matches regularly, more frequently! At the end of the day scorecard remains! Winning a single odi vs top 8 in around 1.5 year time will not help the cause. Every one take us more like a দুধ-ভাত team- every kid growing up in BD will know that feeling I assume!
Play mature cricket, win more matches frequently- all this c*ap will vanish just like that- trust me!

ICL hunting Tigers even in S Africa, says manager
BDNEWS24

Bangladesh's national cricket players are still being hunted by the breakaway India Cricket League, even on tour thousands of miles away in South Africa, say team managers.

Bangladesh thought they had no more worries over their cricketers' security on tour, but it seems the team's management is concerned again. And those concerns are turned toward the ICL rather than the notorious law and order situation in South Africa.
...
"After arriving here, we were provided security personnel on the day of the first match. Other days, we move without security, but we still need to keep a close watch for suspicious characters approaching the boys," said manager Shafiqul Haq Heera on the way to the practiceground at Potchefstroom on Thursday.

Heera said that he was advised by the board to give extra attention to the players as ICL agents were still trying to nab national players.

"Razib (Shahadat Hossain) was made an offer by the ICL during the second Test against New Zealand in Dhaka, but he rejected it," said Heera, a former national captain.
...
The Bangladesh manager was also non-plussed over the team's accommodation at the Palazzo Montecasino, which includes casinos, a skate park, restaurants, a 135-meter high balloon ride and a bird sanctuary.

Heera's concern is that unknown people can approach the players at any time in such a place. "It is not a place where a national cricket team can stay," he alleged.

Here is an article from New Age:
Bangladesh unhappy with hotel
& security arrangements

Azad Majumder . Johannesburg
Intercontinental Palazzo Monticasino – having heard the name of the five-star hotel taxi driver Paul thought it must be somewhere near downtown Johannesburg, so he agreed to go without much haggling.
The fare was fixed at 100 rand, but shortly after he started with a group of Bangladeshi journalists on board, Paul realised he had made a big mistake. The fare of nearly 100km drive could never be so less and it left Paul heavily shocked.

Immediately Paul started saying that he must have to be paid 800 rand and the demand was not unjustified at all. The hotel was so far away from the city centre, it was even unknown to a seasoned taxi driver of Johannesburg. An adjacent casino and a super-mall covered with an artificial sky made the hotel worthy of staying for a tourist, but certainly not for a cricket team that travelled thousands of kilometers for a month-long tour to play one-day internals and Test series.

Shafiqul Haque Heera, the manager of the Bangladesh cricket team, had thus every reason to feel unhappy since he checked in at the hotel last week. ‘How can it be an ideal lodging for a cricket team I don’t understand? It can never be easy to concentrate on cricket in this casino hotel,’ a visibly annoyed manager said.‘Nobody simply cared for us here. On the day of our arrival, the players had to sit for hours at the lobby before they checked in. After 17 hours of air journey, it was totally unexpected,’ said Shafiqul.

It was not just the manager, even the South African trainer of the Bangladesh cricket team Grant Ludden was also complaining. Usually the visiting teams stay at Hotel Santan, but Ludden, who hails from the neighbouring city of Pretoria, had little clue why they were kept so far away.‘We were told that Santan is now being renovated for the 2010 World Cup football, so no room was available there. Maybe that is why we are here,’ Ludden said before the team left for Potchesfstroom.‘Then how the South Africa team are staying there?,’ the obvious question came almost immediately from a cricketer. Manager Shafiqul Haque said they were also not very happy with the security arrangement at the hotel.

Generally Bangladesh never complain about security, but it has become imperative after several national cricketers joined the unrecognised Indian Cricket League following the tour of Australia.
‘The BCB officials had categorically told me to remain alert so that no unwanted person could meet with the cricketers at the hotel. So we have asked for extra security during the tour, but nobody listens to us. Other than police escort on the match day, I have seen no security arrangement for us,’ he said.

The indifference shown by Cricket South Africa towards the Bangladesh cricket team was not limited to hotel accommodation only, but also in the transportation too. The day Bangladesh team arrived in Johannesburg, there was no bus waiting for them at the airport, said the manager.‘It was very unfortunate. We came here after 17 hours of air journey, naturally the players were tired. Will they tolerate it, if it happens to them in Dhaka? I can guarantee, they will not,’ he said.

In fact, Shafiqul also did not tolerate it. He said he has informed the matter to the Bangladesh Cricket Board and an official complaint has already been lodged with the CSA.‘We will travel at least to three cities during the tour. I just hope the situation will improve,’ said the former skipper.

Thanks guys for the articles, shocking really that a cricket team in the top 10 in the world gets to be treated so poorly by SA officials. I mean come off it, one hour is piss taking, so is 2, 3 and 4 but 5? well it really is shocking!

thank you zia bhai for the article! i am pissed all over again...
again i will say this to SA...i didn't expect anything better from you all...nothing changed...the slave prison/hell/society still remains the same...shame that we have to go play at a place like this..
i am disgusted at CSA and the SA authoruty...

and oh yeah, next time BD should bring their own security to any country...hell, tigers should have a battalion of RAB-1 travel with them everywhere! and shoot, just blast away any pathetic, waste of a sperm, sub-human ICL recruiter on the spot, doesn't matter 'which' country they came from! i am sorry, i would rather get banned from BC and still say this....

Javed bhai,
bou rey kon birani rantey.

If this is the case, they are so concerned, then why didn't they request to stay in Army barracks? Come-on, I thought SA were doing a favor by keeping them in a 5 star hotel which has its own bird sanctuary, wow!!

Concerned about Casinos? As a manager if you are concerned about these things then call a team meeting and let them know what you want. At least let the captain know what you want and what is out of bounds so that he can convey the message to his team. If you can't take care of 15 youngsters then what type of manager you are?

This is actually a very serious matter. We don't have to be thankful for anything. If they didn't host us they'd have to pay us hundreds of thousands of dollars as compensation as the tour is in the FTP. We host them as if they are Royals and the very least CSA could do is to treat our players like professional cricketers. I am glad we have a manager with balls. This Deshi mentality of thinking of ourselves as inferiors must stop.

Why do we need security? South Africa is the capital of cricket match-fixing. Wouldn't it bother you if Bangladeshi cricket gets embroiled in this nonsense. Sure we are crap but atleast we are clean from all that dirt. This team is young and they may easily be tempted to do something stupid. There were rumours about Pilot getting involved in match-fixing during the 2003 WC in South Africa, hopefully they were only rumours.

There have been past incidents where cricketers have been mugged in SA. And to add to all of that now it seems ICL is hunting our players in South Africa! But obviously it seems as if you don't care about all that.

i agree mijan bhaiya, again, the moment i listen to you, you always manage to convince me and calm me beautifully...i just get so angry so quickly over these issues now a days...!

of course, you are right, we should focus on biriyani....will bring bliss and peace in life and tummy! but my bou is full niramish and all about anti-animal killing and won't touch any meat/flesh of animal...so somehow i manage to cook myself 'aadhpora',"beshi lobon/jhaal" meat dishes for myself and the cats! you coem visit us in nyc and i will cook for you, no matter how bad it is...and for all my BC family..coem to ny and visit me...let's eat biriyani...

T_E bhai, the tone of your post is very disappointing. didn't expect it from you. Bangladesh is an international team and deserves proper honor and treatment off the field. On the field treatment should be earned by playing good cricket, but there is no excuse to treat an international team in this way.

Big shame for CSA.

-Rikshaa diye hotel mokbul e niye rakha from airport
-khabar er shomoy JHAL KOM Curry er shate Panta bhat !(loti, muli, shutki eigula oder moja lege jabe...tai eigula deya jabena)
-hotel room e non-english speaking waitor diye serve kora
-Load shedding hoy emon hotel e thakte deya
-Swimming pool er bodole Burigonga
-Match start howar por jodi BD harar pothe thake,...taholey goru chagol stadium e chere deya
-after the match ABDUL HAMID(channel i dharabashokar) ke diye shakkatkar neya

these will teach them a good lesson!

There is no inferiority complex in being thankful. Things could have been much worse. Eat your bullets, count your blessings, you are here for two more days, move on. If the security concerns were so great BCB should have communicated with SA before hand. Not just hoping they would give a royal treatment. Not everyone can read others mind nor do they think alike.

As a guest I for one would complain for petty matters. Did NZ complain by the way? They stayed in Dhaka, the only practice match was in fatullah, where the facilities were below any club would offer, no match played, they travel back all the way and get in to a traffic jam. They detour back to their hotel instead of the Mirpur ground. I didn't hear any complaint from Vettori, nor any apology from any BCB members or even a fan. Certainly their gripe is much bigger than ours.
