20.1 | MacGill to Habibul Bashar, FOUR, googly tossed up, spins in, Bashar moves back and cuts, gets the edge, Hayden too late to catch that, ball goes to thirdman fence. |
MacGill to Habibul Bashar, FOUR, bit wide, cuts hard, gets the edge past Hayden at slip to thirdman fence.

Well, then lets go step by step: initially I was asking if you would be satisfied with our batsmen batting out 4 sessions without losing any wickets till end of play tomorrow. That, understandably would get us to a draw.
Then you said to assume that we won the first game, and that we'll draw this game due to rain. To this I would reply: if you're thinking idealistically and being positive about how BD has put up a fight in both games, and with the rain coming into prevent us from losing, we'll be having something of a moral victory, by all means, you may be correct.
However that simply isnt realistic or pragmatic. The fact lies that we lost the first test, and secondly in this game our first innings was horrible and we have a mammoth total to overtake. Practicality would dictate we aim for a draw nonetheless. Our players may by all means get 50s and 100s, however I'm more worried about this being a test match.
This game still has a good 3+ sessions to go. Thats almost 100 overs. Sure, we could be aggressive and take those runs and overtake quickly. But more often than not, our aggression has been our downfall. We end up being all out, and the rest of the overs and time ended up going to Australia's advantageous.
So, in order to remedy this I would remind everyone: This is a test match. There is almost unlimited time, and overs in our hand. There isnt ANY rush to score runs. They should take it easy and score their runs with as much time and laxaty as possible - ensuring that their wickets are safe. Thats where I differ with you. I dont think being aggressive is the best defense for Bangladesh against Australia in a Test match, with 100+ overs of play to go.
I've already explained how the game may be won by us, but no doubt you can see thats very improbable. I wish my team the best, and I hope they put up a respectable fight, thats all. I'm sorry I cant dream big or aggressively. The thought that there is a lot of overs to go, and time at hand holds me back. In the current circumstances, Our current aim is not to win but to avoid defeat. They should just bat out till lunch tomorrow, and then launch into an attack if needs be, when circumstances are in our favour. This is the beauty of test cricket to me. I hope you respect this perspective of mine

Good shot. Nicely cut for 4 by Bashar. They're a heck lot more solid now. Not playing silly shots.

Take a leaf out of Dizzy's book. No need to hit the good ball for 4. Wait until the bad one. Bat your heart out and stay at the crease for 425 balls. Even if you score at a strike rate under 40. OCCUPY THE CREASE!! PLEASE!!!!

That's it ... Our Test match batting target should be not some amount of run ...the target should be batsmen can play a total of 1200 to 1500 balls in two innings. If they can do it consistently for a few tests, next step may be improvement in scoring.
Same thing can be said in case of bowlers - Don't worry about runs ... Try to get them allout within a number of overs (say 100) ...allure them ...
Otherwise, we will never turn into a mature test cricketing nation.

BD is playing ODI and getting really lucky. Win is out of the question. Draw is possible but tricky.

I would not classify our game as ODI. These two have settled in, and are not playing silly shots like slogging the balls or feeling for the deliveries that go past their bats. They're connecting decently. However its not Test match composure either.

Sumon gone. That was a bad way to depart. One shy of his 50. He played that tempting ball right into the waiting hands of slip. Lapse of concentration perhaps. That was a dangerous ball, and one to leave, or cut down to the ground past silly point
