Very happy at the competitive performance of our players in this test. Attitude towards test batting has also changed in this match. But still needs improvement in many areas.
What worries me is the second test. Bangladesh generally has done well a couple of times in the first test against visitors, taking advantage of the oppositions lack of adaptation to the conditions. When they get adapted, the matches look one sided.
If bangladesh can even have similar competitive game in ctg, we can be generally sure that we are improving. But if that goes one sided again in favour of SA, we are back to square one. All the pleasure of this match will evaporate.
Deffensive still means only deffence and no runs, while offensive means only 4/6 in every ball. The batsmen needs to be more balanced in their approach. Ability to take singles comes with the confidence & skills of the batsmen. We still lack in that department. One additional specialist bowler is a must for wining a test. We vartually played this test with 3 bowlers, rest are part timers. We were short of two bowlers. If one has a bad day (Like Mash had), which can always happen, we are virtually left with two bowlers.
Hope we have a more balanced team and approach to do better in CTG.

If SA had batted first, they might have posted a big total, Bangladesh may have batted much better in their first innings, but may have lost by a larger margin, and the match may have ended at the end of the fourth day.
Ash was smart enough to bat first, then restricted SA to less than 200 runs. When I saw that I knew that this match will probably go into the fourth day if BD could have posted 250 runs in their second innings. Unfortunately this did not happen, SA had an easy win, but only by five wickets, best performance by BD I have seen in a long time.
BD did well to restrict SA scoring in the first innings. Took a first innings lead. When last has that happened, normally, the opposition always has a huge lead of over 300 runs, which becomes an insurmountable task for BD to get, and they crash to an innings defeat.
Did not allow any batsman to score many runs, only Smith scored 50+, no centuries, no records broken by SA, and no innings defeat.
I was thinking that once Amla and Kallis gets going, BD will have to toil very hard in the field. Thank goodness, they got them out. i saw what they did against New Zealand and Pakistan. The West Indies restricted these two a great deal also in both tests they played in SA, where WI was lucky to win the first test because they made over 400 runs in their first innings. If BD had done this, they would have won this test match.
WI lost the second test match, but not by an innings. Out of all the countries who played SA recently (NZ, Pak, and WI (8th in the world), WI performed the best against them. What I am trying to say here is that a lower ranked team can still play very well against SA, and even though losing, fight hard to avoid a huge defeat.
IMO, since I have been closely following BD cricket, this is about the best test performance I have seen in a while, correct me if I am wrong.
I am disappointed that BD lost a great chance here, but I still applaud their effort.

Mucho Mas better performance than the NZ tests. international batters would have taken notice of Shahadat- nine wickets in the match. Should have been the man of the match quite easily. Bowled out a very good side on a decent batting pitch for 170...thats something very special!
As ever, Ash and Co. deprived us of a much deserved win by their charectaristic reckless batting in the first innings.
Having said that, Bd can take heart from Shahadat, Zunaid, Rafique and Aftabs performances to the next outing.

I have couple of queries:
1. Does it always have to be a player of the match from the winning side? Why not Shahadat Hossain? He was better, even though his side lost.
2. Tamim shouldnt be in Test Squad. He is good for ODIs and T20s
3. Comon Bashar?? He has offerred a lot for the team. But We should keep in mind, instead of doing favors to him we should do favor to the team by eliminating him, Because we need wins.
4. I think, Mash should be rested for the next game and Syed Rasel should come up. I know, I know He is the Vice Captain, But still, We need players who can take wickets!!! Rasel was lil expensive in the warm up match but still he has the ability of taking wickets.
5. Ashraful needs to be more focused on which type of game he is playing. He is forgetting this isnt a T20 its a Test. He needs to stay on the stumps and play like Junaed.
What do you guys think??

JamesBond, did you see Tamim bat in New Zealand? He was simply amazing. He has silenced his critics with his techinique and temperament and should play test cricket regularly. The only problem with him playing this test match is he wasn't fully fit and he was out of match practice for about three weeks. They should've brought him back in the second test and give him some time to recover. But now that he is back and I am sure he did get some net practice done, he should be an automatic choice for the second test.
Others queries, I do agree except #4.

Mashrafe is completely out of sorts and for his sake he should be rested and Rasel brought in as an extra pacer or Reza who can bowl, bat and field well.
if given another chance,Mashrafee will not perform better. Sakib should also be rested, he is not doing anything with the bat nor the ball, and of course it is a blatant abhorrence on the part of the selectors and Siddons to coninue carrrying useless baggage like Bashar.

Basically how Mushfique's missing the stumping has caused Rafique. How his average is worthless etc. etc. He was told Rafique is 45 years old and never knew about Pilot. He was told Mushfique is the Best WicketKeeper of Bangladesh. The selectors pretty much confused him with their personal biases.
I would recommend Jamie Siddons come and visit BanglaCricket.com for his knowledge than relying on a cheap(h)-selector who was a nobody of cricket in his time.

I know JS gets his info From Mciness too. And I guess MCiness is giving him 2 year old info. JS needs to come to BC. but I think he is not a PC related guy like Mciness or some others. But these information needs to reach him and reach him quickly.

BG had chance to win this game. They play so well for a couple of days. Hopefully they will win at least ONE test match against a good team this year. LOL

I thought Kallis deserved the MOM award. Had it not for his intelligent bowling,, we wouldnt have lost that many wickets that fast. He did change the game. Shahadat bowled superb but deserved the MOM for the fist innings. Kallis nailed the last one on our coffin.. Its always one Kallis, one Pointing, one Inzaman,,( and our batsmen) that "Chai"s our "Bara Bhat"

Kalis definitely deserves the MOM, though Shahadat performed even bette than him with the ball. The only diffeence is that, kalis'e peformence led the team to victory. In fact it was some sensible batting by SA in 2nd innings that led to victory. Had our batters done a little better in 2nd innings, we would have won, Shahadat would be MOM.
Unique example, How the performance of the team is shared by the best performer of the team.
