Change of taste I guess. When I was a kid and before migrating here, I was a avid listener of hindi song. Back then I used to hate English songs especially rock bands.

In less than 3 years my choice switched and I get a headache listening to hindi songs, the very songs that drove me crazy a few years ago. But my hate for English rockbands like U2, Kiss and Tupac crap still stands.

Its amazing how some people's taste changes so quickly t o a different direction.

However, I always hated Bangla songs more than English rockbands. But I did like some of the songs by Miles particularly "firiye Dao" and "Chand tara surjo", those are old songs but the best I heard. Rest are kinda dragging and puffed up with emotion.

I'm listening to these right now...all by Artcell:
- Oniket Prantor (the best Bangla song I've ever heard...specially the last 6 mins is mindblowing)
- Dhushor Shomoy
- Tomake
- Poth chola (their 2nd best song)
- Ghune khawa rod (their 3rd best song)

If you haven't listened to Artcell, you should. They started off in the underground level, and I loved their performance. After performing incredibly for several years, they've come up in the front line a few years ago...now they're better than Black (my guitar ostad is Jahan bhai tho ).

There are defining times in everyone's lives that make us choose the kind of music we like listening to, with the exception of pure entertainment. There are those who listen to certain type of music to blend into a group or culture, and then there are those who like a particular type of music that they can relate to. All it needs is influence.

When I was about younger I experiemented to all kinds of music, from pop, garage, hiphop, even classical. Since then I have grown out of it and matured into music that I think truly requires talent, and of course real instruments instead of a beatbox.. that's Rock.

Tupac isn't rock. He's a deceased rapper and even though rap isn’t my thing, he was pretty good.

Tupac's not rock...may be you're confused.

What hurts me is people in bangladesh are quite into Indian music...more than they are into bangla music. I may be wrong now (coz I haven't been back in 4 years ), but what I've noticed is that this comes from the lack of knowledge about bangla music. Our music started 200+ years ago...we've got one of the oldest histories in music. The craze for azam khan, lucky and happy, miles and james have shifted the attention away from our other big talents.

The exposure to indian channels in BD is way too much. That needs to go. My cousins back there watch indian dramas, not Bangla ones. What a shame! I watch Bangla dramas here in Canada even!!!

May be if your cousins lived outside BD for as long as you, they would also appreaciate Bangla music/drama more. I think there is also an issue of not enough "good" Bangla dramas being made, not sure of the music sector though.. From my observation of the media, people in BD seem to have more involvement and affinity with Bangla culture on the whole than I saw a few year's ago.. but I no longer know how it's like for the whole country in different social-stratas.

I don't know if you get NTV in london, but they have quality programming.

Yes they would appreciate BD programming texts more if they were abroad. But also, they SHOULD be involved in their own culture, than the one in pasher desh. Personally, I hate the fact that we do "paye dhore salaam kora", which is basically an Indian tradition. There're tons of things of that sort that happen in BD. Anyway, that's off topic

Bancan bhai,
NTV canada te chalu hoise that I know (coz I had their ticket for their opening ceremony), but I never subscribed it (coz I can't even tell you when was the last time I turned on the tv...for real). But I remember watching a bunch of NTV natoks that I got from Scarborough when I went there this summer (I don't drive, so takes me 2 hrs in transit).

From what I know, they're probably starting to broadcast SOON. Having said that, I don't have any more details. Will post here if I get any.

By far one of my most favorite Bangla song...by no other but our LRB. It's called "Bangladesh", and dates back to the days when I was crazy for LRB. This one's a remix...although I like the original one better. Will try to find the original.

Amar Bangladesh.
