Default ODI Form of World Cup Teams

This is my first thread in almost 2 years.

I wanted to do a health check and find out about the one day international form of teams participating in the world cup. Bangladesh is in a good position and doing well in the last 18 months compared to other teams. Tigers are overall in 3rd position with 17 wins from 27 matches. Let's hope we keep the good form going in the world cup.

Australia and Pakistan have been surprisingly poor during this period.

Bangladesh third on the list, this is an achievement itself when you see the top 2 are England and India. We must target the semis at least this time, I think some are underestimating what BD can do this time

Welcome back Miraz. Good to see finally opening a thread again.

I know the quality of the opponent matters when we do data compilation.
Russell - Gayle changes the WI land scape. We may still beat them but not that easily. They are significantly stronger with those two.

Won Lost Margin
Ind 2 7 wkts, 3 wkts.
NZ 3 8 wkts, 8 wkts, 88 runs.
SA 3 10 Wkts, 200 rums, 104 runs.
SL 2 2
Pak 1
WI 7 2
Afg 1 1
Ire 1
Zim 5

We didn't beat any top guns. SL is downwards spiral. But they have the ability and players to turn around. They just won a test series against SA at SA with broken team. One of the match wasn't even close. Pak, just one game against them. Low scoring wicket. Fizz unleashed his cutters. Don't want to comment on Zim and Ireland since they are not playing in the WC.

You be the judge on how we are doing in the last year and 8 months.

Home/Away also matters , if SA and NZ had come to Bangladesh instead last few months then those stats would have been much different

We have never won more than 3 matches in a world cup..this is the only thing that is keeping my expectation down

True. But not the rosy 17 W and 10 L record either. This world cup is not at home unfortunately.

I am not a party pooper. I do have expectation for them to do good. I just want the bowlers to bowl Yorkers. Is it too much to ask to bowl one Yorker per over in the last 5 overs of the innings? JUST one? With Taskin lurking behind, 130ish km short pitch effort ball ... nightmare may come to reality.

Thanks T_E Bhai.

I agree - opposition matters. The condition matters as well.

We lost to SA and NZ in away matches. We probably would have won against them at home.

World Cup pitches are likely to be batting friendly which should be taken into account.

Indeed BD has been in good form the last 2 years. And if this wc was held in the subcontinent, i would love our chances to make semis. But in England, where the par score is going to be 350ish, we just arent built to score 300+ 6 out of 9 games. Our sweet spot is 280ish, which we can chase down or defend consistently.

Main thing is our tournament records are pretty good. Even overseas.

2007 WC in West Indies (2-6 against G8 teams)
2011 WC at home (1-3)
2015 WC in AUS/NZ (1-3)
2017 CT in ENG (1-2)

Overall away from home against the top sides we have 4 wins and 11 losses. Based on that, we can expect 1 win from the top 5 sides this time around. So then all we have to do is make sure we win the 4 games against the bottom ranked sides to have a shot at the semifinals.

Difficult, but not impossible.

@ahnaf,
In good old days sports journalists routinely got their news items from Banglacricket forum threads. I am sure we have few lurking around for news ideas. 😊

I’ve been in this forum under other usernames for the last 10 years, I feel like I’m writing to the carcass of what was once an online home for me.

It’s sad and this might be a sort of mourning for that loss.

I will truly miss this place once even the whispers die down.

If he tried to put all, then he would still be typing and adding to the list. Fickle forgetful minds we have.
For Example:

Shaad (Dr. Mama). Sadi, Sami, Sadz, Shan, Sabbir, Shafin, ShakibRulz, Sham, Shehwar, Shubho, SHUJIBURO, SMHasan, Sovik, Spitty (Spitfire_x86), Stumped (Now this bring backs memory - Watmore's daughter), Sunny747, Surfer (Ind) and that is just from the "S"s.

Okay back to the topic:

Anyone looking over the SL - Scotland game? Perera-Mathew failed yet they look like cruzing.

322 against Scotland in this day and age is likely below par.

This is my observation, opponents paying too much attention to Rashid/Mujeeb trying to compensate against the pacers and hence all AFG pacers are among wickets. Not watching live so cannot tell if I am correct but scorecard gives me the hunch.

Ireland have somehow figured out Rashid and Mujeeb. They drew the series 2-2 in India on turning pitches. They won a series vs AFG last year. The Irish play Rashid and Mujeeb very well. Heck, even Zimbabwe plays them quite well.

Thats why I have hope that BD will eventually learn how to play against R and M.

I wouldn't look so much into forms. We got blanked by New Zealand 3-0 earlier in the year, but in all honesty, if they were to tour us, we would've blanked them 3-0. That game in the Champions Trophy between the sides shows the slight difference between them. This world cup will exactly show something similar.

Making good start is very important in a tournament like World Cup. The format will rule out any major upset like 2007 exit of India
