The Annual Social Circus Day was already held past month (April 6th, 2019). For the next one, you have to wait 11 more months.

Langol to London .. evolution usually happens this way : village > mofosshshol shohor > capital > aborad. They went from village to aborad in one go. Eder jiboner ekta khali aim - kivabey lal aka British passport pabey. You meet any British Syleti and the first thing they ask you 'Kagoj hoisey' . WTF?
Places in East London where they live are notorious for dug dealing. If you ever happen to drive through one, you will see the ganja stone-eyed looks on the teenagers while they drive leased Audis and BMWs. Of course they are not all bad, the hujur types can be good or jongibadi. A lot of these joined ISIS for example.

We , non Syletis do not want any association with these British Syletis and would prefer not to be lumped into the British Bangladeshi category with them.

Shingara does give a good historical account of how Sylethis came to the UK.

But still I consider all Bangladeshis the same despite being skeptical about British Sylhetis and how they think about us.

One of my best friends is Sylethi and is one of the nicest human beings I know. His family would treat me as their own. His Dad (rip) one of the first MPs and so honest that they dont have their own house in Dhaka.

Tbh Sylethis are a hospitable lot in reality if you are in the circle.

Let us all be united rather than divided.

This is a really bad post. I’m surprised you are not still banned.
So much total sh-t written about a community of people.

You could upgrade yourself and start living with those successful sylhetis in UK. There are loads of good example of how sylhetis (especially the young generations) have achieved. But I reckon your not in that high level to see them. Successful Accountants, Lawyers, Business owners, Doctors amongst many things.

But your level is not that high to witness those people or get the chance to see them.

Your rooted in the average bracket hence you get to meet those average sylhetis.

Wow had no idea how much hatred there is for sylheti's. I opened this thread with a clean heart and have now witnessed some appalling attitude from certain people. No wonder we can't move forward in our community, idiotic people like Shingara are people to blame.

As a Londoner who lived here for 15 years, I think the Sylheti - non-Sylheti issue has been blown out of proportion here.

There are some cultural differences which should not be surprising. Overall I found an average Sylheti Londoner exactly the same as an average non-Sylheti if you take the cultural differences into account. One notable exception - Sylhetis are much more religious bunch who have built many mosques across the UK.

This is a terrible post. But nothing new from u. If u think like this you no longer are qualified to poke fun at sylhetis because then it becomes hate speech instead of joke.

Poster should be warned.

You should know by now that what I say is nothing but the truth, no sugarcoating.
You are more than welcome to stay here and find out the same yourself.

Young generation Sylethis did what ? Are you being serious mate ?
School leavers who don't bother going to college or uni don't amount to much in their lives.
My previous manager was a Syleti and he was an absolute racist just because I was non-Syleti even though I was born here. I was mentally tortured for 3 fking years and then ended up quitting.

My best friend is a Syleti btw. He is a mullah and a very good man.He agrees with me on these points.

Truth in your small world. Everyone does not and will not conform to your belief system - many cases that belief system is very archaic and encroach upon others freedom. Perhaps it's time you stop throwing judgement on others and work on improving yourself and your thought process.

You sound worse.

and news flash many ppl do not like their boss - because they don't like being told what to do, being micromanaged. Blaming his ineptitude on his background also show you do not know how to thrive in difficult scenario.

Classic. Your best friend being a Sylheti does not absolve you from exercising proper social etiquette or worse actually being a regionalist/racist/a bigot.

All these time I thought sylhet jokes were funny and used to join in but some of these thoughts are disturbing and disappointing.

You worked under someone for 3 years who mentality tortured you LMAO. What a weakling. No wonder why you think like this. Blaming the whole world and hating on everyone else to feel better about yourself instead of winning.

I was getting lot of moolah, so I endured it. If you don't believe the things I said, you are welcome to use Google and do your own research. I can PM you links to newspaper articles, if you want.

P.S. Let me make it absolutely clear I have nothing against Sylethis from anywhere else in the world. My khaloo is from Sylhet as well.

I don’t know what industry you work in. Sometimes your own average position doesn’t allow you to see the good sides, since you only end up seeing the worst ones.

I have met many people in the banking/finance/accounting world that are from Sylheti background, and yes the young generation. There are loads of them working for big corporations like KPMG, Deloitte, Ernst & Young.. and soo on.

This particular issue you talk about is very problematic and prevalent in the restaurant/hospitality industry. Mostly filled up with middle aged men, and those that didn’t continue further education.

But this is no way to judge everyone. Your own experience isn’t reflective of the whole Sylheti community.

So your sylheti boss was making much more.

Why would you want to google for news article to try to reinforce an established view on something? Do you see bias factor in it? If I search for stories I am sure i will find it but how does that help me?

In USA crimes are more prevalent in communities of color , does that mean I should form an opinion on them instead of thinking about he driving force behind them such as socioeconomic status.

If you think non sylhet bangladeshis aren't having premarital sex or using drugs you are fooling yourself.

Do you think the problems you brought up is prevalent in Sylhet? then it can not be related to their region can it?

I agree with your observation.

I work in the education sector and I see every year 10-12 students in the first year undergraduate course of a top UK university. The number has steadily increased over the last few years. I know similar numbers get into the MBBS course of our university as well. Second generation Sylhetis even from the restaurant industry are also getting degrees from universities and entering into the mainstream jobs market. The pace of change has been slow, but it has accelerated in the last 10-12 years.

I mentioned earlier and I reiterate again, the hatred to Sylhetis are very exposed here which is not a welcome scenario to maintain a healthy environment.

So what did Sylhetis do? What were their fault actually? What did Sylhet as a district segregated from Assam, provide our tiny country?

Get some history lessons and try to wear their shoes in your large big mouth feet. Hope you get enlightened.

There's not hatred here for Sylhetis but only for British Sylethis. This all kicked off when the OP said he would like to meet "British Sylheti's"
