Default The decline of Pakistan in ODI Cricket

They are ranked above Bangladesh, but have lost 12 out of 15 matches in 2019 and won only 2 matches. I am not sure how they are still ranked above Bangladesh.

In the last 12 months they have won only 4 matches against top 10 countries while lost 16 matches.

Despite this very poor results, Pakistan fans still think Pakistan has a chance to win the world cup and surely will go to semi final.

Deluded or realistic based on Paksitan's past performance??

They had .1% of winnings the Champions trophy in England in 2017. The whole team was about to get axed. Then they win it. That is extreme inconsistency. A team who has no business winning wins the entire tournament. Their current team is better than the 2017 team. What would a percent of fan expectation be for a similar tournament at the same country two years fast forward? Those who are optimistic, even with being last in the race, would want to get the magic back.

Not only that, they think they will "thrash" us and Afghanistan. Not just limb to victory ... Bunch of delusional fools.

Surely they can't repeat the same success twice by being pathetic in building up to the tournament!!

It must be very unique and Pakistan way to prepare for a major tournament.

I just want to beat them in World cup and push them below us in the ranking. That will be so sweet

The ability of Pakistan to create surprises in major tournaments is because they have a think tank which can determine strategy for their success, also the combination of proper experienced campaigners with new trained astonishing talents in pipeline helps them apply the plan properly, we saw it when Younis lift the first T20I trophy or when Misbah took them to final in India. It started with Imran Khan winning it properly placing Inzamam at the right moment after getting lucky with weather against England.

Speaking of England players from no other countries are as familiar with English conditions as much as the Pak players, constantly representing heavily in county cricket. That knowledge and habit will become a huge plus point for them to do well in familiar English condition.

As OneWorld already mentioned, all of their players have played in England at some point of time. They know-how of many things that most non-English players don't. That gives them a slight advantage.

I don't believe they will catch lightening twice. This is because they don't have the bowling strength, fielding, and acceleration power to end an innings.

We made CT semifinals so we believe we can make WC semis. Same with PAK fans. Nothing wrong with that. Also BD and PAK both tend to punch above their Weight in tournies.

PAK will get at least 1 upset win and so will BD. Question is how many should win games they will drop and how much will umpires dictate terms vs India (and ENG AUS).

You have to take the buildup into account.

Pakistan hasn’t won a single match in last 10 attempts. Suddenly they will start winning all matches appears a bit far fetched even by Pakistan standard.

Pakistan's problem is captaincy. From what appears from the screen, Sarafraz is an uninspiring captain - tactically no genius either.

Pak have no scarcity when it comes to having talented players, but due to not having a captain who can bring the best out of players, Pak often fails to play as a team in all three departments, and consequently fails to clear the finish line.

During 2003-2007 period, Pak had a team of much less talented players but under Inzamam ul Haq, they registered series wins after series wins, both in ODIs and tests. Yes Inzamam failed in WC 2007, but during 2003-2007 period, his record is impressive both as captain and player.

Pak also had a great test and ODI stint under the successful captaincy of Misbah ul Haq.

They could not produce replacement of Inzy and Misbah - and they are suffering.

SL is also suffering same problem due to not having a transformational captain - talent and individual performances remain sporadic and do not convert to team wins.

Look at BD - we improved leaps and bounds after we found the right captain in Mashrafe. Once he retires, we will understand his true value

Same was said before the CT and they end up winning it after losing the first few games.

Also Sarfaraz was the captain then as well.

They just defy logic

I am not taking anything away from PAK, but CT format was much easier. Win a few matches and you win the cup.

However, this WC has the toughest format - no fluke team will be able to sneak through.

Also in the recent ODI series loss against ENG, PAK showed that they have the ability to consistently score 300-350+ on English pitches. This ability might prove vital in this WC, especially if they are setting a target. England have chased it down, but other teams will fail more often than not. Also remember that this was how they beat India in the final of CT -bat first and set a big total.

Their form was even worse prior to CT.

If Sri Lanka can beat India in CT, and PAK can win the final, then Bangladesh can make semifinals and even win the entire WC. Unlikely, but possible.

If we make the semis, we shouldnt care how India or Pakistan do.

I totally understand the fans' reaction. There are only so many nations playing internationals. If your team already has won the cup once, and just won a major international trophy only a couple of years back, no matter what your form is, you would back your team.

They consistently put 330+ scores in matches where the opponent won most of them quite easily. This probably points towards the easiness of the streep more than anything. I don't read too much on the score rather how easily the opponent beat them is important here.

Pak have a very dangerous batting lineup. Fakhar Zaman, Babar Azam, Shoaib Malik, Haris Sohail and that Asif slogger dude all in top form is actually a quality batting unit and would be up there as the best batting units going around if they bat to their potential.

Us BD fans aren't realising how poor our bowling lineup is. I think Pak will beat us comfortably this WC imo.

Fakhar and Haris have questionable techniques and might not do very well against good attacks. Babar is a class player and Malik can be dangerous on his day.

Experienced guys like Malik always do very well against us. Can easily see him not giving up his wicket. I just hope he does it in a slow enough run rate where it won't harm us.

You are underestimating current BD bowling attack, if it was so 'poor' then all their top order would have scored runs against them in Asia Cup like the days when Imran Nazir and Yasir Hameed used to hit centuries for fun Vs BD.

The pitches in England series were the flattest in world that's why their batsmen looked good, even Liton and Soumya will look destructive in those 350+ par wickets.

Come on mate. How good does a bowling lineup need to be to run through Pakistan?
