Sidhu Under Fire
Navjot Singh Sidhu is being warned as the ICC threatens ESPN and Star Sports to be careful Reported by Faisal Caesar Navjot Singh Sidhu’s commentary is as attacking and aggressive as his batting was during his playing days. His commentary is tremendously irritating and while he gives his expert opinion on teams' performances, it tends to cross the limits of decency. And for which Mr. Sidhu had not been appreciated happily by many. Sidhu is giving his expert opinion on Star Sports and ESPN show hosted by Harsha Bhogle for the ICC World Cup, before the start, in between the breaks and end of each matches. Participating with Sidhu, there are Ian Chappell, Tony Greig, Sourav Ganguly, Tom Moody, Patrick Symcox and many other ex-cricketers. In that show, Sidhu gave some insulting remarks about the Bangladesh cricket team, for which Sidhu is being hated by all the Bangladeshis. A Bangladeshi cricket fan named Dipon sent an email to the ICC terming Sidhu as a “racist”. According to Dipon the comments which Sidhu gave regarding the Bangladesh cricket team violate the ICC’s code of conduct. The ICC’s CEO Mr. Haroon Lorgat took Dipon’s email with importance and went through the video footage in which Sidhu gave his insulting remarks towards Bangladesh. Mr. Lorgat assured Dipon that the ICC had told Star Sports and ESPN to be careful in future. Mr. Lorgatt also sent this email to the BCB chief Mostafa Kamal and ICC’s MD, David Richardson. So what did Mr. Sidhu say? On investigation it was found that before the match against the West Indies, while giving an explanation to Ian Botham’s comments, Mr. Sidhu gave an insulting remark towards the Bangladesh cricket team. Botham said that the Tigers were ahead of the West Indies in the race for the quarterfinals. Sidhu while giving his explanation said that both the birds and cockroaches fly but the cockroaches are not birds and he compared the Bangladesh cricket team with the cockroaches. Dipon in his email said that according to ICC’s code of conduct rules any person insulting a nation or religion during an international cricket match deserves to be punished. Lorgat in reply stated that the ICC had taken the matter with great importance and after investigation they had found the evidence of violation of the ICC’s code of conduct rules. Perhaps the ESPN and Star Sports team too will take proper action on the matter and will try to get rid of such persons who have no sense of respect and gentleness. Who cares about one Sidhu & what he says. He is earning his bread by doing these, lets not stop his income/rizk. BD is too big to be insulted by some stupid comments of an insane person. However, reporting to ICC was the right action and I'm sure that will work. Lets not make him a celebrity by going after him. That's what he wants as well.

Even ignoring the amateurish way the article is written, the article doesn't seem to make a lot of sense. What control over independent broadcasting service employees does Lorgat have? And how in the world does the ICC code of conduct fall into this? The code is written for players and team officials only...
Btw, Sidhu is a tool, but comparing a team to a cockroach isn't racist... At least not in this context.

I played that game posted by ialbd all night last night. It's addictive as hell! Thanks Ishtiaq!
On topic - if Sidhu can be considered as a manush, we can also consider telapoka as a pakhi. So really - couldn't give a rat's a** about what he said. I was watching the show live at the time it happened, and everyone on the set were surprised to hear him say that. So it's okay, leave the kid alone...and please don't take away the nipple from his mouth. That's the only way to keep the kid happy.
