Exclamation Prothom-Alo Moved Germany to 2nd Round !!!!!!

Prothom-Alo Headline: সবার আগে দ্বিতীয় রাউন্ডে জার্মানী (Germany first to reach 2nd Round) !!!!!!!!!!!

How come they publish this headline when the group is not decided yet? There are 3 more matches remaining in the group and it is still anybody’s group. Just consider the following possible outcomes in the remaining matches of the group:
Costa Rica vs. Ecuador: 2- 0
Ecuador vs. Germany: 2 – 0
Costa Rica vs. Poland: 2 – 0

In this case, the group standing will be as follows:
Team
Match
Win
Draw
Lose
F - A
Point
Costa Rica
3
2
0
1
6 - 4
6
Ecuador
3
2
0
1
4 - 2
6
Germany
3
2
0
1
5 - 4
6
Poland
3
0
0
3
0 - 5
0

And Germany can still be eliminated from the group.

It was early morning in Bangladesh when the match ended. The headline must be a creation of a sleepless tired mind!!!

Yeah, in that case---Germany can still be eliminated from the group. But I think it is possible only in dreams.

I guess in this scenario they are in a good shape to make the 2nd round as one of the two best 3rd place teams.

Best 3rd team rule is not used any more since there are 32 teams now.
This was a rule when World Cup used to have 24 teams.
God..you certainly miss those good old days!!!!!

Prothom Alo made an assumption for all the right reasons, only a miracle can turn this around.. highly unlikely!

Yes..the chances are just mathematical and Prothom-Alo can certainly assume that Germany will move to 2nd round. When you assume something- you say "it can be safely assumed...", but you can not say "Germany in 2nd Round".

Look what FIFA says, "The result does not guarantee the hosts qualification for the Round of 16, but it leaves them with one foot in the knockout stages."

That's what a news report should look like.

hahahah, I guess I did. Thanks for the reminder. I gradually lost my interest in soccer after moving to US. Now it's all about the cows,mavs,stars.... but ofcourse cricket is still on top my list.

As for Prothom-Alo's assumption, I think they probably misundertsood the commentators assumptions of Germany almost reaching the 2nd round.

According to your dream table: Still Germany will qualify for the 2nd round.
Cause, Germany has 5 goals (F), more than Ecuador.
To be qualifying Ecuador needs at least 5 goals. They have only 2 goals. If they lost 2-0 to Costa Rica according to your theory, they need to put 3 goals in Germany's Goal Post (Hopefully they will get this inspiration after 0-2 defeat from Costa Rica) ....Yeah may be possible....see what happens.

I think that's an editorial error, not necessarily your traditional match report. If you read the aricle again it's ridden with opinions to begin with.

Sorry forget to mention One thing: and hopefully Poland will eat Green-Banana all over the tournament to make this Dream true....

When points are equal, then comes the goal difference. Number of goal scored comes into consideration when goal difference is equal.

Ecuador is beating Costa Rica. That should end any debate.

Just for the sake of it Babu Bhai could have been right if the following had happened:
Germany 6 points goal difference 5-4.
Ecuador 6 points goal difference 5-3.
CostaRica 6 points goal difference 7-6.
Poland 0 points goal difference 0-6

Ecuador loses to CostaRica 1-2.
Germany loses to Ecuador 0-2.
Poland loses to Costa Rica 0-3 (Poland'rey taka khawailey shob kora shombhob).
